Bill Martin MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 3) - One streak is over, but another continues as Deery Brothers Summer Series teams make plans for the Tuesday, June 10 show at Marshalltown Speedway.
The string of consecutive first-time winners ended at four when Tom Darbyshire took the IMCA J & J Steel Late Model tour checkers at Boone Speedway on Memorial Day.
Darbyshire, however, became the sixth different driver to win the feature in as many Deery events this season, and the eighth different in as many races dating back to last September. As a bonus, the Morning Sun driver also caught Todd Cooney of Des Moines for the top spot in point standings for the 22nd annual series.
Pit gates at Marshalltown will open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. The feature pays $2,000 to win and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are also on the card.
Pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. More information is available by calling 515 432-4703 and at the www.marshalltownspeedway.com website.
Seventeen previous series events have been held at Marshalltown. Curt Martin of Independence has enjoyed the lion's share of the success there, with five wins.
Jeff Aikey of Waterloo and Jay Johnson of West Burlington have each won two Deery features at Marshalltown.
Darbyshire has a two-point advantage over Cooney heading to Marshalltown. Boone McLaughlin of Mediapolis is 10 points out of first, while Andy Nezworski of Buffalo and Justin Reed of Quincy, Ill., round out the top five.
