Bedford’s Tyson Banks Goes Up Against Stiff Competition At Brownstown
by Ben Deatherage BEDFORD, Indiana- 2016 had been a year of learning for first year Late Model driver Tyson Banks. Banks, who hails from Bedford, Indiana, would put up some decent results against the local competition at Brownstown Speedway but was still looking for his first major breakthrough of the campaign. That breakthrough would occur on Saturday April 23rd, at Brownstown, for the Mullis Distributing/CarQuest/S&S Auto/Clark’s Tree Service/Bob Evans Restaurant/Pud’s Auto Sales/Hancock Trucking/After Hours Paint Shop/Randolph Welding/Brandon’s Speed Zone/Gear Works of Bedford/STARS 99.3 WBED #747 MasterSbilt against some incredible competition. “Our year had been going okay at that point,” said Banks, “the (Ultimate) Battle of the Bluegrass series came to town and we decided to race against them. We knew we were at a disadvantage right off the bat going up against the big motors with our crate but we just planned on getting some laps and learn some more.” Right out of the gate the team were putting up a good effort. They were fourth quick in their respective group in time trials and ended up fourth in the heat race to earn a transfer position to get into the feature. “In the main we were running mid-pack for the first six laps but I made a rookie mistake. After that I pulled it in to save our equipment and not tear anything up. I was just so happy to do so well against the big boys that night, it was a big booster to our program.” This weekend Banks intends to race a couple of times this weekend. The first will be on Friday night, April 29th, at Bloomington Speedway before heading back to Brownstown on Saturday the 30th. It will be the first time Tyson has competed at Bloomington. “They haven’t had a Late Model show there in a few years. There’s been a lot of good Sprint Car guys come from there and it’s going to be cool to drive on a track with so much rich history.” Although the weather looks a little iffy for Saturday the team is ready to pick up where they left off at Brownstown and improve some more. The race will be sanctioned by the regional P3 Graphix ILMS.
