COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Opens ’16 This Weekend

by Ben Shelton
BEEBE, Arkansas (03/30/16) – The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil opens their 2016 season this weekend with a pair of $2,000-to-win events in Texas and Arkansas. It will mark the 10th year of operation for the Arkansas-based tour.

“There’s always a lot of excitement to get the season started, but it seems like this year that the anticipation is really through the roof,” commented CCSDS CEO, Chris Ellis. “Fans and racers alike are really pumped about this year, and I’ll admit that myself and the entire series’ staff are equally excited. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in business for ten years already. Time sure does fly.”

Jack Sullivan picked up his first series title in 2015 and looks to be a contender again in 2016. The Greenbrier, Arkansas racer will lead the CCSDS troops into battle in this weekend’s openers, while two-time series champ, Kyle Beard from Trumann, Arkansas will be gunning to dethrone him.

2011 champion, Brandon Smith and 2012 champion, Jon Mitchell are also expected to be competition this weekend.

Joining the former champs at events throughout the weekend are a strong cast of drivers including Clay Fisher, Tommy Surrett, Shannon Scott, Joseph Long, David Payne, Austin Theiss, Brandon Hightower, Larry Campbell, Shane Stephens, Mason Oberkramer, B.J. Robinson, Timothy Culp, Allen Tippen, Kyle Cummings, Garrett Alberson, Brandon Wilson, Mason Oberkramer, Tanner Kellick, and more.

As the series prepares to lift the lid on 2016, they are proud to welcome Shreveport, Louisiana’s Black Diamond Chassis as a sponsor. The chassis builder will sponsor the first heat race each night throughout 2016. At the end of the season, the driver, who wins the most heat races, will receive $50 per heat won. In addition, a new chassis will be presented to the highest finishing driver in the final standings, who regularly pilots a Black Diamond or Black Diamond by Club 29 Chassis.

The 2016 campaign opens for the stars and cars of the CCSDS on Friday evening, April 1st at Timberline Speedway (Corley, Texas). A $2,000-to-win/$300-to-start event will be held at the clay oval. Anticipation is high for the return of the CCSDS to the facility after a one-year absence. Super Stocks, Limited Modifieds, FWD 4-Cyliners, and Factory Stocks will also be in action. Grandstand admission is $20 for adults with children (ages 6-12) $5, and children (ages 5-and-under). Pit passes are $35. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing action beginning at 8 p.m.

Saturday, April 2nd will take the tour to Tracey Clay’s I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) for a $2,000-to-win/$400-to-start affair. Four appearances at the ¼ -mile oval in 2015 found Jack Sullivan winning twice with Jesse Stovall and Clay Fisher each grabbing a single triumph. IMCA Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Factory Stocks will also be in action. Adult grandstand admission is $20 with children (ages 6-12) $2 when accompanied by an adult, while kids (age 5-and-under) are free. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing action at 7:30 p.m.
