Ray Cook Runner-Up in Crate Portion of Ice Bowl; Cabin Fever Next

BRASSTOWN, NC (January 18) - Ray Cook Racing rolled into Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama on January 9-10 for the annual running of the 'Ice Bowl.' In NeSmith (Crate) Dirt Late Model Series competition, Ray Cook timed in second fastest in his group during Saturday's qualifying session and later scored the victory in heat race action on Sunday afternoon. After starting the $3,000 to win headliner from the inside of the third row, Ray blitzed to the front of the field to lead laps 15-31. At the conclusion of the 50-lap headliner, the Brasstown, North Carolina star found himself an impressive runner-up behind only race winner William Thomas!

In the Super Late Model portion of the busy 'Ice Bowl' weekend at TST, a $6,000 top prize was on the line. Ray clicked off the second quickest time in his group during qualifying on Saturday, but was later involved in a first lap tangle with Jason Hiett in his heat race, which dropped the "Tarheel Tiger" to a disappointing seventh place effort. After grabbing the third transfer spot through Sunday's consolation event, Ray was an early retiree in the 50-lapper with motor issues and was placed twenty-fourth in the final finishing order. Complete results from 'Ice Bowl XXV' can be accessed online at www.talladegashorttrack.com.

The #53 team now plans to take the upcoming January 15-16 weekend off from racing action before returning to competition on Saturday, January 23. Ray is slated to pull double duty during the annual 'Cabin Fever' show at Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia. The Super Late Models will vie for a $3,500 winner's check during the unsanctioned special, while the Crate Late Models will race for a $1,500 paycheck. An open practice session will kick off the weekend on Friday evening at the Chattanooga-area facility.
