Ray Cook Winds Up Sixth in Southern States Classic; Trip to Boyd's Ahead BRASSTOWN, NC (November 11) - The "Tarheel Tiger" Ray Cook jumped behind the wheel of Monte Skinner's #00 Capital racecar on November 6-7 at Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida. The 'Southern States Classic' for Crate Late Models paid $10,000 to the winner and drew a 30 car field to the Sunshine State. On Friday night during preliminary action, Ray posted the fourteenth fastest lap in qualifying prior to grabbing the third transfer position through his heat race.
With rain falling throughout Saturday's 100-lap main event, attrition took its toll on the feature field. Ray, who started the 'Southern States Classic' from the outside of the seventh row, drove up to as high as fifth in the running order despite pitting three separate times for more tear-offs. The Brasstown, North Carolina standout was then unfortunately forced to retire with ten laps remaining due to a broken driveshaft. Despite completing only 90 circuits, Ray was credited with a sixth place effort thanks to all of the attrition and two competitors failing post-race technical inspection. Complete results from Southern Raceway can be accessed online at

Ray will return to competition in his own #53 Super Late Model this upcoming weekend at Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia. The Southern Nationals Bonus Series will preside over the 'Turkey Throwdown' on Saturday night, November 14 at the Chattanooga-area facility. The single-day showdown will pay $5,000 to the winner, while each feature starter will receive at least $530.
