Riley Hickman Surges Late to Magnolia Win; Deep Fried 75 Nextby Ben Shelton
CLEVELAND, Tennessee (October 14) – Riley Hickman took the lead in the closing laps of the NeSmith Crate Late Model portion of the Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 in his Hickman Manufacturing #R1 Austin Trucking/CVR Super Late Model before racing to the $3,000 victory.
Riley Hickman made the trip to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) on Friday night for the two-day, Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100. Powering both his Super and Crate Late Model, Hickman was competing in a field of 66 Super Late Models for the $20,000-to-win, A-Main on Saturday. Needing a 3rd spot or better to qualify for the finale via his heat race, Riley failed to earn a transfer spot. As a result he ran the B-Main on Saturday night, where he fell just short of qualifying for the main event.
In a field of 52 NeSmith Crate Late Models, Riley enjoyed a much better outing. A 3rd place finish rewarded him with an eighth row, starting spot for the $3,000-to-win, A-Main. Gaining fourteen spots, Riley Hickman took the lead with just six laps remaining in the 50-lap affair. He would go on to score his eighth Crate Late Model victory of the season and sixteen overall with Evan Ellis, Justin McRee, Daniel Bridgman, and Jeremy Shaw rounding out the top five.
“We were just a tick off where we needed to be all weekend in the Super Late Model, but we had an awesome car in the Crate Late Model division,” said Hickman. “That was a really tough field of competitors, so to come from so deep in the field to win was really cool.”

Hickman will pull double duty again this weekend as he travels to Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, Tennessee) for the 4th Annual Deep Fried 75. The Super Late Model division will battle for a $12,000 top prize, while the United Crate Racing Alliance (UCRA) Super Late Models will compete for a $2,500 winner’s check.
