Jeep Van Wormer Starts Preparing for $100k DTWC After Eldora PINCONNING, MI (October 8) - The Iron Motorsports team made the jaunt to the hallowed grounds of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio over the weekend for the annual running of the 'DIRTcar Fall Nationals.' The American Late Model Series (ALMS) special at the "Big E" was pushed back to Sunday, October 4 due to inclement weather. When the Super Late Models finally took to the racetrack, Jeep Van Wormer clicked off the fastest lap in his group during the qualifying session.
After starting fourth in his heat race, Jeep was able to move up a couple of spots to finish second in the prelim, which allowed him to roll off from the outside of the third row in the $5,000 to win headliner. During the course of the 40-lap 'DIRTcar Fall Nationals,' the Pinconning, Michigan star advanced all the way up to second and was tracking leader Bobby Pierce when a lapped car caused him all sorts of problems. Jeep folded under his nosepiece while trying to get around the lapper and was unfortunately forced to retire in the twenty-second position. "I was really happy with our car the other day at Eldora, we just didn't get a good finish out of the deal," stated Van Wormer following the race. "I got up to second and was really just riding behind Bobby (Pierce) when we got into some lapped traffic. One of the lappers was all over the place and taking up the entire racetrack. I had to get off the gas at a place on the track where you normally don't let off and my nose just slammed down hard and folded under. Unfortunately that was the end of our race, but we will get everything fixed back up and get ready for Portsmouth."
Jeep and his #55 team are now scheduled to take the upcoming October 9-10 weekend off while they gear up for the 'Dirt Track World Championship.' The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series finale is set for October 16-17 at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. Two rounds of qualifying heat races will take place at PRP on Friday night, while consolation events, the $3,000 to win 'Jim Dunn Memorial' for non-qualifiers, and the 100-lap DTWC will cap off the weekend on Saturday evening. A gargantuan $100,000 top prize has been established for the victor of the 35th Annual 'Dirt Track World Championship.'
