Kyle Beard Takes Two Wins and a Podium in Ricky Barkley Memorial

by Ben Shelton
TRUMANN, Arkansas (August 31) – Kyle Beard took part in the inaugural Ricky Barkley Memorial over the weekend at Northeast Arkansas Speedway (Harrisburg, Arkansas), where he competed in both the Super Late Model and Modified ranks.

With a $4,000 top prize on the line for the Super Late Model competitors, Kyle won his heat race from outside-front-row, starting spot on Friday evening to lock into the 2nd starting spot for Saturday night's finale. As the feature went green on Saturday Beard jumped to the lead and led the first 30 laps before losing his brakes, which caused him to slip to 3rd behind Terry Phillips and Jon Mitchell. Despite not having any brakes, he was able to still battle for the lead for the remainder of the event before finishing 3rd behind race winner, Phillips, and Mitchell.

In the Modified ranks Kyle stormed from the 6th starting spot on Friday night to win his heat race, which locked him into the pole position for the feature. Kyle grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag, and went on to take the win over Terry Phillips, Robby Arnold, Jeff Wells Jr., and Keith Hammett

Saturday night found Beard repeating as the Modified winner in Shawn Mann's #86 GRT entry. He was followed across the finish line by Robby Arnold, Jeff Wells Jr., Kelby Wright, and Dan Holmes. He now has twelve wins on the season.

“Both cars were really good all weekend, but I would’ve loved to have seen how the Late Model feature would’ve played out if we hadn’t lost our breaks,” said Beard with a smile. “Again though it was a great weekend, so I was really happy with our results.”

The Labor Day weekend will be a busy time for Kyle as he prepares to take part in a trio of $3,500-to-win, COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model events. Action opens on Friday night at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway (Paragould, Arkansas) before moving to Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas) on Saturday night. Action draws to a close on Sunday evening at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi). Kyle is currently second in the latest tour standings and will look to make up ground this weekend.
