Ricky Weiss Pockets Win #5 of 2015

by Ben Shelton
HEADINGLY, Manitoba, Canada (June 10) – Ricky Weiss unveiled a new look on his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7 Bloomquist Chassis/Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model over the weekend and came away with his fifth win of the season.

On Thursday night Ricky Weiss returned to Red River Co-Op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) for a regular show. Ricky climbed three spots in his heat to record a 2nd place finish. Starting in 7th in the A-Main, Ricky wheeled his Late Model around six competitors to capture the victory with Bill Mooney, Mike Balcaen, Kevin Sexton and Mike Martin rounding out the top five. This win gave Weiss his fifth triumph of the 2015 season.

Fresh off a win the team traveled to Brown County Speedway (Aberdeen, South Dakota) for a WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series (WLMCS) event on Friday evening. After recording a 2nd place finish in his heat, Weiss scored a 6th place exit in the A-Main event.

The following night brought Ricky to Dakota State Fair Speedway for another WLMCS race with a stacked field of 36 Late Models entered to do battle for the $6,500 top prize. Starting third, Weiss cruised to a heat victory transferring him into the 60-lap feature. With 25 competitors in the A-Main, Ricky raced to a 2nd place finish behind race winner, Scott Ward, with Kent Arment, Jeff Wildung and Brian Diede completing the top five finishers.

On Sunday night Weiss ran into bad luck after failing to finish the A-Main. With 31 cars signed up for the night's Marilyn Olson Memorial, Ricky made the decision to pull off and save his equipment at Casino Speedway (Watertown, South Dakota). He was credited with a 14th place finish in the WLMCS event.

Friday the action continues at I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota), and the weekend concludes on Saturday evening at Jamestown Speedway (Jamestown, North Dakota) with the NLRA Late Models.
