Chilton, Lee, Coffman, Hounshell, Jr., Puckett, and Bell Victorious at Ponderosa Speedway
by Michael Despain JUNCTION CITY, KY (May 29) - Racing action returned to Ponderosa Speedway on Friday evening and feature event winners included Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Models, Victor Lee of Danville, KY in Sweet Beans and Things Modifieds, Todd Coffman of Parksville, KY in Premier Integrity Solutions Pro Late Models, Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY in Lawson Tractor Sales and Service KDRA Super Stocks, Ricky Puckett of Louisville, KY in Four Cylinders, and Jason Bell of London, KY in Hardees Mini-Cup/Cyclones.
Michael Chilton would take the early lead in the 25 lap Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model main event, with Johnny Wheeler and Victor Lee giving chase. Wheeler and Lee would battle each other in the early stages of the contest, with Lee eventually taking the runner-up spot, while Chilton built a comfortable lead, only to see it go away when the caution waved on lap 18 for a spin by J.L. Muse. After two failed attempts of restarts for spins, action finally resumed with Chilton pulling away from Lee in the final five laps to gain the victory in his Caton Industrial Painting/Chilton Lawn and Maintenance/Parkview Home Center/Keyser Manufacturing/Genesis Shocks sponsored #97 REVELution Race Car sporting a Bullock Race Engine. Lee would finish second, with Wheeler claiming third. David Webb and Brandon Mason would complete the top five. Jeff Watson would debut a brand new race car and finish sixth, with the remainder of the top ten being Daniel Dial, Timmy Taylor, J.L. Muse, and Donnie Sullivan. Twelve entries saw Lee as top qualifier at 14.707 seconds, with heat wins falling to Wheeler and Chilton.
Victor Lee would take the lead at the start of the Sweet Beans and Things Modified feature and survive a rash of early cautions to claim the victory in a guest appearance in the seat of the Kerry Trowbridge owned Tri-County Auto and Oil/Automotive Specialists/Dexter’s Gun and Ammo/Brunner and Son Lawn Care sponsored #16 Diamond Race Car powered by a Pro Power Race Engine. J.T. Ayers would take runner-up honors, while Chase McWhorter would recover from an early race spin to finish third. Wade Rookard and Steven Eversole would round out the top five. Nine entries saw Ayers as top qualifier at 15.828 seconds, while Lee would also win the heat.
Todd Coffman would again dominate the action in the Premier Integrity Solutions Pro Late Model main event and would take the checkered flag first in the Sharon Coffman owned Auto Connection/Self Service Storage/The Muffler Shop/Coffman’s Photography/Todd’s Body Shop/Harrod Farms/Heritage Closing sponsored #35 Rocket Chassis, Hendren GM604 Crate powered mount. Timmy Yeager would outduel Wesley Brummett after a race long battle for the second position, with Jake Henry and Zane Powell completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Chris Fair, Richard Musick, Darrell Gaddis, Derek Bottoms, and Perry Barnhardt. Eleven entries saw Powell as top qualifier at 15.170 seconds, while heat race wins went to Coffman and Brummett.
Glen Hounshell, Jr. would be have the dominant car and once again visit victory lane at Ponderosa Speedway by winning the Lawson Tractor Sales and Service KDRA Super Stock main event in his Kentucky’s Best Transmission/Jay’s Golf Carts/R&R Builders/Jennings Do It Best/Nationwide Insurance/Smoke House Grill/Central Scrap sponsored #20 Chevy Monte Carlo. The remainder of the finishing order would be David Murphy, Greg Hensley, Sarah Patrick, and Johnny King. Hounshell, Jr. was the top qualifier among five entries at 16.846 seconds and also won the heat.
Four Cylinders would make their first appearance of the 2015 season and Ricky Puckett of Louisville, KY would be victorious in the 12 lap main event in his Farris Plumbing sponsored #15. Adam Gregory, Jamison Gipson, and Keith Gipson completed the running order. Four entries would see Gregory win the heat.
Jason Bell would take the checkered flag in the Hardees Mini-Cup/Cyclone feature to claim his second win of the season in the Sarah Bell owned CheapGoods.com sponsored #97. Tim Crusenberry would finish second, with Scott Crusenberry suffering mechanical issues on the final lap and finishing third. Three entries also saw Bell win the heat.
