Annual Spring Meltdown opens MLRA season this weekend at I-80 SpeedwayMLRA PR
WHEATLAND, MO (April 1) - After a busy off-season, the Lucas Oil MLRA is fired up and ready to go for the 2015 campaign. The 27th rendition looks to be possibly the strongest for one of the country's most seasoned tours. There is a stellar group of drivers who are eyeing the $15,000 top prize for the overall championship. Also impressive are the four rookies who have thrown their name in the hat for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year honor.
Racing gets started this weekend Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4. The Annual trek to I-80 Speedway for the Spring Meltdown has been a staple of the schedule for the past several seasons. An addition this year is the Saturday night purse increase to $5,000 to win. Friday will also be a complete show paying $2,000 to win.
"This season is really shaping up as something special," commented Series Director Dan Robinson. "We have more marketing partner, track and driver interest than I can remember in quite some time. Over the off-season Ernie Leftwich and I worked hard to put a solid schedule together. Now we are ready to see it all come together."
I-80 Seedway has been a staple of the early season Lucas Oil MLRA schedule. The Kosiski's 4/10 mile oval has hosted the series lid lifter six of the past 10 years. Known for the Silver Dollar Nationals, I-80 Speedway will host the Lucas Oil MLRA a total of five times this season.
A new twist this year at I-80 Speedway is the Cubby's Chase to the Silver Dollar Nationals. Through various qualifying stipulations, 18 drivers will make the field for the final race of the night on Friday of the Silver Dollar Nationals. Drivers competing this weekend and also at the Alphabet Soup race in June are eligible. The knockout style 18 lap race will pay $2,000 to win. Look for a follow up release with all of the specific details.
