Ashley Newman Makes History with Inaugural UCRA Victoryby Ben Shelton
RIPLEY, Tennessee (March 31) – Overcoming a stellar field of 63 entries, Ashley Newman powered the Greg’s Sawmill #73 Upton Motorsports/Bob Pierce Race Car to the $2,500 win in the inaugural event for the United Crate Racing Alliance (UCRA) on Saturday night.
The newly-formed, United Crate Racing Alliance (UCRA) invaded the 1/4-mile oval as a stout field of sixty-three Crate Late Models registered for the event.
The top six qualifiers were locked into the $2,500-to-win event, and Newman posted the fastest lap in his respective group to earn the pole position for the finale.
When the race went green, Newman took control and led flag-to-flag for the victory over Matt Henderson, Ethan Hunter, Jerry Coffman, and Jake Teague.
“First time I’ve really had the opportunity to race at Duck River and what an awesome track it is,” said Newman. “To win any race is big, but to win a show over a field like this is something special.”
