Ray Cook Runner-Up in Capital Debut; Returns to Dixie this Saturday BRASSTOWN, NC (September 4) - Brasstown, North Carolina native Ray Cook traveled to Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia and Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia on August 29-30 for a pair of Labor Day weekend races. On Friday night at Boyd's, a $3,000 top prize was on the line in an unsanctioned special at the Chattanooga-area facility. Ray, who was aboard a Warrior racecar out of the Tommy Pope Racing stable, qualified third fastest in time trials. He then led a majority of the 40-lap feature event until stripping a spool in the rearend while leading on lap 31, which relegated Ray to a disappointing eighteenth place effort.
At Dixie on Saturday evening, Ray debuted a brand-new Capital racecar in a $2,000 to win weekly show at the historic Atlanta-area venue. After timing in fourth quickest during qualifying in his new ride, Ray started the headliner from the outside of the second row. Despite encountering engine woes late in the distance, the popular driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" hung on to a strong runner-up performance behind only victor Jason Croft. Complete results from both holiday weekend races can be accessed online at

With a different powerplant installed in the new Capital ride, Ray will head back to Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia this Saturday, September 6. Another $2,000 winner's check will be up for grabs in two day's time at the historic D-Shaped racetrack. More information can be obtained by pointing your web browser to
