Jackson Collects Winchester Second With Sterling Performance
Franklin Romps to Sixth Pure Stock Checker

by Doug Watson
WINCHESTER, VA (August 2) - "This is a big win for our team tonight." Were the words from Odenton Maryland's Keith Jackson after he posted his second Late Model feature win last Saturday night at Winchester Speedway. The win for Jackson, aboard his MasterSbilt no.11J, was worth a cool $3000.

Jackson and Allan Brannon made-up the front-row for the start of the 35-lap Late Model main with Brannon surging into the race lead as the field roared down the backstretch. Brannon's lead would be short-lived as Jackson zipped into the race lead at the completion of the fifth-lap. Jackson would go on to lead the distance, but it was by no means an easy trip to victory lane. JT Spence chased Jackson for a majority of the event until sixth-starting Jason Covert arrived. Covert wrestled second from Spence on lap twenty-five and set sail after Jackson but would run out of time as Jackson had built up an insurmountable lead and would have to settle for runner-up money. "I owe this win to Bruce Kane, Jim Stevens and all the people who put this deal together." Jackson stated during his post-race interview. "We've got the Outlaw's here at Winchester and Potomac in a few weeks and this is a great way to get ready for those races." Jackson was quick to acknowledge track owner Greg Gunter on the racy Winchester surface. "I really enjoy racing here." Said Jackson. "Greg put some new dirt on this place this season and with the way they've re-done the turns and all this is one of the best places in the area to race and to win here is a pretty big accomplishment." Spence would eventually take third, Brannon hung on for fourth with Jamie Lathroum completing the top-five. Heats for the 20 cars entered went to Jackson, Spence and Brannon.

Current points leader Mike Franklin drove to his division-leading sixth feature win of 2014 in the 25-lap Potomac/Winchester Pure Stock challenge. Franklin, who started fifth, snared the race lead from Mike Bennett on the fifth-circuit and would then drive off uncontested to post the dominating win over eventual runner-up Keith Koontz. Kevin Koontz would take third, Sean Dawson was fourth with Jerry Jenkins Jr. rounding out the top-five. Heats went to Bennett and Keith Koontz.

Justin Hottle continued his winning ways as he scored his 8th win of the season in the 15-lap Four-Cylinder feature. Hottle, who lined-up 10th on the grid, overtook Ed Gageby on the sixth-lap and drove off to score the win. Gageby settled for second, Cody Kershner was third, Roger Whitlock took fourth with Ethan Ours rounding out the top-five.

Points leader Jeff Wilkins and Michael Pfaff split twin U-Car features. Wilkins third win of the season came in the July 26 make-up event with Gene Wilson, Mark Pollard, Kevin Oates and Haley Kaiser trailing Wilkins at the finish. In the regularly scheduled main Michael Pfaff drove to his division-leading fifth win of the season. Youthful Haley Kaiser appeared to have won her first-ever U-Car main as she came from her seventh-starting spot to grab the race lead on lap-nine and would then drive off to post the win. However, her car did not survive the tech-line and Pfaff, who crossed the stripe in second, was awarded the win. Travis Clark, Kevin Oates, Jeff Wilkins and Steve Fadeley rounded out the top-five.
