Career Win for Newman; Beard Tops North Alabamaby Ben Shelton
RIPLEY, Tennessee (July 29) – Upton Motorsports enjoyed a great weekend as both team drivers, Ashley Newman and Kyle Beard parked their hot rods in victory lane.
Kyle Beard traveled to Moulton Speedway (Danville, Alabama) on Friday night in his #86 Gary Beard Trucking/Bob Pierce/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model for an unsanctioned $2,000-to-win race. Twenty-four Super Late Models registered for battle, and Beard locked into the eighth starting spot on the feature grid via preliminary action. During the course of the finale Kyle advanced to a fourth place finish behind race winner, Eric Cooley, Ronnie Johnson, and Ronny Lee Hollingsworth. Full results from the event are available at

On Saturday night, Kyle Beard and the Upton Motorsports team invaded North Alabama Speedway (Tuscumbia, Alabama). Another $2,000-to-win Super Late Model program was contested, which would see Beard snare his second victory of the 2014 season. Kyle posted the overall fastest lap during qualifications, locking him into the pole position for the feature with Eric Cooley alongside. At the drop of the green flag Beard jumped to the race lead and never looked back, scoring the victory over Cooley, and Jamie Flanagan. Complete results from the program are available at

“I feel like we are getting this car finally figured out,” said Beard in victory lane. “We’ve struggled over the past month, but my team just keeps digging, and this win is for them.”
Ashley Newman entered a single event over the weekend in his Upton Motorsports #73 Greg’s Sawmill/Bob Pierce Crate Late Model, as he made the trip to Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway (Calvert City, Kentucky). Twenty-four Pro (Crate) Late Models registered for battle in the event, which posted a $4,000 winner's check. Ashley qualified thirteenth fastest overall during time trials, which positioned him starting fifth in the first heat. He went on to finish second behind Troy English in his heat race, earning him the fourth starting spot on the grid for the 35 lap finale. Newman moved into the second spot early in the race, and chased leader English for much of the event. As the laps wound down, the lead duo battled heavy lapped traffic. Newman used lapped traffic and a deflating right rear tire on English's machine to his advantage, making the pass for top spot entering turn three on the final circuit for the victory. English held on for second followed by Tait Davenport, Brent Lewis, and Jeff Walston. The victory marked Newman’s fourteenth of the season and the richest of his career. “I sure hated to see (Troy) English have bad luck there, but we will definitely take the win,” commented Ashley. “This is just a dream season that I’m havingright now.”
It will be another busy weekend for the team as series point leader, Kyle Beard will enter a pair of $2,000-to-win, COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) at Diamond Park Speedway (Nashville, Arkansas) and I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas), while Ashley Newman will take part in a weekly racing series event at Camden Speedway (Camden, Tennessee) on Saturday evening.
