Markham Adds Win to Exceptional Year; Hartman Picks up First Feature at Hilltop This Season

MILLERSBURG, OH (June 21) - Even days of rain could not hinder the racing action at Hilltop Speedway as they had their greatest car count thus far with 124 cars entered in the pits and fans filling the stands for an eventful night at the speedway.

The Holmes Tire Late Models had a field of 21 with a few newcomers to the track. Setting fast time with a 14.687 was “The Kamikaze Kid” Tyler Carpenter. Picking up each of the heat race wins was Matt Irey and Mike Lonas with the dash win going to “The General” George Lee. In the last chance race, it was Vic Hottinger picking up the win to transfer to the night’s feature.

Bringing the field to the green, it was “The General” setting the pace with Ryan Markham on the outside. As the two battled back and forth for the top spot, Markham was able to edge his way out front. Going green to checkered and increasing his lead as he worked through lap traffic, it was “Flyin’” Ryan Markham picking up his second win of the season at Hilltop Speedway and adding to his exceptional season thus far. Rounding out the top five was George Lee, Tyler Carpenter, Rick Bond, and Charlie Duncan.

The JPR Auto & Tire, Winning Edge and A & B Roofing and Construction Mini Wedges had a field of 22. Given all the rain over the last week, the small track regulars were unable to run the small track therefore, they too ran the large track. The small track heat race win went to Livia Large. The large track regulars had two heats with wins going to Justin Jessop and Destinie Bates.

With the fields set, the small track regulars were up first, with the green out it was Billy Dawson out front after an early race caution. However, working her way through the field, Andrea Hensel was charging on Dawson. Coming down the front stretch, side by side for the checkered, it was Hensel would get the win followed by Billy Dawson, Zoe Stafford, Nick Large, and Pierce Norman.

On to the track next were the large track regulars with Justin Jessop leading the field to the green, with Bates on the outside. However, after contact with another wedge caution was out, Bates being charged with the caution was forced to restart tail. With the green back out, “The Throttle Monster” Bates worked her way back through the field to go on to win. Finishing second was Nathon Fritter, third to Phillip Bubeck, fourth to Chase Settles, and fifth was Karyssa Beagle.

The Novice Mini Stocks had a 7-car field. With Samantha St. John out front early, John Maki would make his move coming off of four to take the lead as well as the win. Second went to Blake Morris, third to Colten Priebe, fourth to Dustin Camp, and rounding out the top five was Tyler Beckett.

With a field of 19, the Barnes Performance Unlimited Modifieds hit the track, with “The Outlaw” Jesse Wisecarver setting fast time with a 15.701. Heat race winners were Denny Benjamin and Hilton Eppley, while “The Hitman” Jess Hartman picked up the dash win.

Leading the field down the backstretch, Hartman and Bruce Miller set the front row. As the green dropped, it was Hartman to the lead. Working the top, to take over second and third was Wisecarver and “Stormin” Norman Aronhalt. Coming up to Hartman, Wisecarver would make multiple challenges however, was unable to capitalize. Thus, picking up his first feature win at Hilltop this year it was “The Hitman” Jess Hartman followed by Jesse Wisecarver, Norm Aronhalt, Bruce Miller, and Robin Duston.

The Bugs-R-Gone Trucks had a field of 10 with heat race wins going to Kevin Potts and Rolly Heyder, setting the front row for the night’s feature event. Coming off of four, the green dropped and it was Rolly Heyder taking the early lead. However, after hard charges, Potts took the lead and went on to pick up the win. Second went to Rolly Heyder, third to Cole Lillibridge, forth to Travis Winterringer, and fifth to Josey Lillibridge.

Making another trip back to the Hill, the modlites had a field of 10 with Tyler Frankenberry and Brian Stuhldreher picking up each of the heat race wins. Coming to the green, it was Frankenberry out front early and that is where he would remain going on to pick up the win followed by Tim Hawkins, Brian Stuhldreher, Wayne Kintz, and Brandon Shaw.

The Holmes Pest Control had a field of 19. Picking up heat race wins were Bob Daugherty, Brad Moore, and Todd Swim. After a caution filled start, the green was out and it was Brad Moore out in front. Challenging lap after lap for the lead, Daugherty would make his move on the last lap with the help of lap traffic to take the lead and the win. Finishing third was Todd Swim, fourth was Brandon Gardner, and fifth was Gary Hensel.

Rounding out the night with a field of 16 was the Barnes Performance Unlimited Mini Stocks. Heat race wins went to Michael Rose and Jason St. John. With the green out, Rose would jump out front for the lead. After eight laps in, caution came out, bunching the field back up for the restart. As the green came back out, it was Jason St. John who would challenge Rose for the lead. Coming out of four, side by side, for the checkered it was Michael Rose who was able to edge his way over St. John. Rounding out the top five was Gary Hensel Jr., Chris Priebe, and Moose Workman.
