Mike Benedum Bags Beckley Loot; Roaring Knob Next on Tap

by Ben Shelton
SALEM, West Virginia (May 28) - Mike Benedum dominated the $2,000-to-win event at Beckley Motor Speedway (Mount Hope, West Virginia) on Friday night in his Benedum Motorsports #25 BSI Well Service/Longhorn/Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model. The victory was Mike's second of 2014 and his first in the new Longhorn Chassis.

Mike started his night at Beckley by qualifying second fastest before charging to the dash win to earn the pole position for the feature.  Benedum drove away from the competitors as he led all 30 laps en route to the victory, which came over Harold Redman Jr., Wayne Hughes, and Ricky Williams.  Full results from the event are available at www.BeckleyMotorSpeedway.net .

Benedum returned to Tyler County Speedway (Midlebourne, West Virginia) for the annual Jackpot 100, which was sanctioned by the World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series.  Friday night saw preliminary action being held for the $20,000-to-win event, as thirty-three entries converged on the bullring.  After qualifying tenth overall Benedum went on to finish third in his heat race, earning him the seventh starting position on the grid for Saturday night's 75 lap finale.  During the course of the main event Mike battle in the top ten before ultimately registering a sixth place finish at the checkered flag behind race winner, Davey Johnson, Chub Frank, Darrell Lanigan, Jared Hawkins, and Tim McCreadie.  Complete results from the weekend can be found at www.WoOLMS.com .

"We still have a lot to learn about this new Longhorn, but I'm loving it so far," said Benedum.  "The car was great at Beckley, and it wasn't bad at Tyler County.  We were just a tick off, but we will get there."  He concluded by saying, "I'm really excited about the potential we have for the rest of this year."

Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex (Markleysburg, Pennsylvania) will be the next destination for Benedum Motorsports as they plan to compete in the $4,000-to-win, Appalachian Mountain Speedweek event at the facility this Friday night.  Benedum scored a victory at the facility on April 6th, and hopes to add another triumph to the win column this weekend.  For more information on the event please visit www.LMSpeedweek.com .
