Hogan steals IMCA Mod Madness cash by Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 23, 2014) – Friday was another event-full night at the Davenport Speedway as there were one hundred and thirty-one racecars in the pit area. That number was highlighted by forty-three IMCA Modifieds vying for the $2,000 top prize in the IMCA Mod Madness 50.
The main event had the look of its first repeat winner in Darin Duffy. The Urbana, Iowa driver started on the pole and led the first 47 laps. However in heavy lapped traffic, Scott Hogan of Vinton, Iowa, was able to pass Duffy for the lead. Hogan would lead the remaining distance and take home the first place cash.
Duffy would hang on for second, with Doug Crampton advancing from the consi to finish third. Richie Gustin and Chris Zogg completed the top five.
Gustin, Zogg, Kurt Kile, Jake Bowman, and Ray Cox Jr., were the IMCA Modified heat winners. Crampton and Bob Dominacki won the consi races. The Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature was another dandy. Ray Guss Jr. and Matt Ryan raced side-by-side for the lead throughout the first nine laps, swapping the lead several times. Guss would take the lead and hold it until lap 13, when Nate Bueseling swept by for the lead. Bueseling had to hold off a charging Justin Kay to take the win. Kay would settle for second. Guss finished third and was followed by Ryan and Spencer Diercks. Kay, Bueseling, and Mike Zemo Jr. won the late model heats. Gerald Ward was the cream of the crop in the Koehler Electric Street Stock action. Ward took the lead on lap four of the 15-lapper. Ward and Keith Blum would exchange the lead twice in the final three laps with Ward taking the victory. Blum, in his first appearance at Davenport this season, finished second. Donnie Louck finished third, ahead of Cary Brown and Cord Williams. The Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod main had a bizarre finish as race leader Austin Moyer tangled with a spinning car as they came to the white flag. Bryce Garnhart was credited with the victory of the shortened race. Tyler Soppe finished second with Henry Carson third. Jacob Ellithorpe and Joe Grant completed the top five. Andy Loy captured the win in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock feature. Justin Schroeder and Jon Scott each had a turn at the lead before Loy put his car out front. Loy would then swap the lead with Eric Stogdell before taking the point for good. Brandon Dahl would finish right on Loy’s rear bumper. Stogdell held on for third, with Lucas Short and Zach Dahl fourth and fifth respectively. Next Friday at the Davenport Speedway is the first Kid’s Night of the season. Childern 12 and under recieve free grandstand admission with a paid adult. Bike races for the kids will be held on the quarter-mile oval after the weekly racing program.
