Ashley Newman Wins at Clayhill; Podium for Kyle Beard at Ark-La-Texby Ben Shelton
MERCER, Tennessee (May 13) – Upton Motorsports drivers, Ashley Newman and Kyle Beard, each enjoyed a great weekend as Newman raced to victory, while Beard extended his advantage atop the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) standings with a podium finish.
Ashley Newman traveled to Clayhill Motorsports Park (Atwood, Tennessee) on Saturday night for a NeSmith Weekly Racing Series program in his #73 Upton Motorsports/Greg's Sawmill Crate Late Model entry. After winning his heat race Newman topped the field in the feature for his sixth victory of the 2014 season over Tait Davenport, Chandler Petty, Ronnie Cooper, Bronson Berry. www.ClayhillMotorsports.comKyle Beard set out to enter a pair of COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) events over the weekend in his #86 Upton Motorsports/Bob Pierce/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model. Unfortunately it was cut to a single day after Friday night's program at Timberline Speedway (Corley, Texas) was washed out by Mother Nature.
Saturday night took the team to Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) for a $2,000-to-win event with the tour. Kyle drew the second starting spot for the third heat race and went on to finish second, earning him the sixth starting spot for the feature. During the course of the 40 lap main event Beard made his way into the top five and battled at the front of the pack for much of the event. When the checkered flag dropped on the affair Beard registered a solid third place finish behind race winner, Ray Moore, and Bub McCool. Tommy Surrett and Timothy Culp rounded out the top five finishers.
