HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY/DIRT CAPITAL LLC UNVEILS 2014 SCHEDULE by Bob Vores
HAGERSTOWN, MD. (February 2) – Since changes announced October 30th regarding this season’s operation of Hagerstown Speedway, promoted/owned by Frank Plessinger since 1980, Dirt Capital LLC, under the promotion team of Ernie Davis and Rick Jones, work has progressed diligently to produce the 2014 schedule and any rule changes having been posted on the speedway website.
Saturdays remain the primary race night but some two and three night weekends are scheduled.
Overall, 44 race dates are scheduled for Hagerstown’s 67th season and begins with the 29th Annual Race-A-Rama Car Show at the Hagerstown Valley Mall which runs from Sunday, March 2nd until Saturday, the 8th. Opening is the following day, Sunday, March 9th, with a Hagerstown/Port Royal Shootout for the 410 sprints and late models.
Overall, 17 different divisions will be competing during the season with late models, late model sportsman, pure stocks, hobby stocks and four cylinders being the regularly scheduled divisions.
A new division included this season will be the rookie cars, an entry division for front wheel drive four cylinders. They will be making eight appearances.
Other divisions taking to the track will be the 410 Sprints, Super Sportsman, Classic Series, URC Sprints, Modlites, Crate late models, 360 Sprints, Big Block Modifieds, EMMR vintage cars along with the AMA Motorcycles and Monster Jam Trucks.
Drivers and fans expressed their wishes to have more late model shows and 31 dates include the popular division while the late model sportsman will also have an expanded season of 24 race dates. Pure stocks, hobby stocks and four cylinders appear on most all late model dates. Spring and summer championship double point events appear on various dates for the stock and four cylinder classes.
Late models highlight the Three State Flyers event on April 12 with the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Models appearing on the 25th for the 33rd Annual Stanley Schetromph Founders Day Classic.
A double point event for late models on Friday, May 23rd is the Ernie Jones 22 which will be followed the next night with the Hagerstown/Roaring Knob Challenge event.
Other events include the Roberts/Bonebrake Memorial ($2500 to win) on June 28th, the Red Nininger Memorial ($2500 to win) on July 12th, the 33rd Annual Hays/McBee/Jones Conococheague 88-lap event set for July 26th and the Ernie D’s Auction Enterprises event ($2500 to win) on August 9th.
The speedway remains a part of the Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speedweek on May 31st as well as PA Sprint Speedweek which will be on Wednesday July 2nd and accompanied by the EMMR (Eastern Museum of Motor Racing) vintage organization.
For the topless fans, two events each are scheduled for late models and late model sportsman. Late models take the tops off for the Nininger and Ernie D’s events while the late model sportsman appear twice for Hoosier Daddy events, March 29th and June 14th ($1000 to win).
Late model sportsman also have other races paying additional money and include two Malloy Ford events, Sunday, May 25th and August 2nd with $1500 to the winners and $1000 on May 17th for Appreciation Night.
Small Cars will participate in two qualifying events April 12th and August 23rd before the two day 8th Annual Small Car Nationals event on September 12-13.
Following the July sprint speedweek show the AMA motorcycles arrive for the 33rd Annual Hub City Classic on July 5th and two weeks later, the popular Monster Truck Jam arrives for three days of action, July 18-20.
The following have joined Dirt Capital LLC as title sponsors and include K. Lynn Management LLC pure stocks, Mason Dixon Auto Auction hobby stocks, and J.G. Cochran Auctioneer four cylinders while Sharrett Collision Center will sponsor the late model hard charger awards.
October will feature a Twin 20ies weekend for late models, crates, plus the stock and four cylinder classes and the final two shows are a six division bonanza featuring the 360 sprints, modifieds, late models, late model sportsman, super sportsman and pure stocks.
During October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all 50/50 proceeds will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness.
Some of the events for the younger generation include a Kids Bike Give-A-Way on opening day, Easter Egg Hunt, Bike Race, Christmas in July, Candy Night and Foot Race Hay Ride.
