Kent Robinson Strong in El Paso; Prepares for Modified Action at Volusia

by Ben Shelton
BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (January 31) – Kent Robinson opened his 2014 season over the past few weeks with an extended trip to Arizona and Texas in his #7R JB's Salvage/Club 29/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model.  While the excursion with the National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) got off to a slow start, by the time the nine race series had completed Robinson had found his groove with a string of strong runs.

Everything from inverts to mechanical issues bit Kent early and often during the 2nd Annual Winter Extreme at Tucson International Raceway (Tucson, Arizona), but he did manage to claim a 5th and a 6th place finish during the six-race series.

One week later the action shifted to El Paso Speedway Park (El Paso, Texas) for the inaugural Battle at the Border.  Robinson found the going to be much more friendly at the 3/8 mile oval as he contended for the win in the final two rounds of the three race series before settling for a 2nd place finish each night.

"We were a lot better at Tucson than our results showed, and at El Paso it really showed," said Robinson.  "I feel like we should've had at least one win there, but all things considered we were pleased with our performances.  He concludes by noting, "My new crew chief, Brian Leonberg, is doing a great job so far, and I think we could have a really great 2014 season."

Robinson will now park his #7R Super Late Model for a few weeks as he turns his attention to the #85 Jones Oil Open Wheel Modified, which he will pilot during the 43rd Annual DIRTCar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida).  His schedule for the 1/2 mile oval includes individual shows on February 11th-14th with the Gator Nationals being held February 16th-17th, and the event drawing to a close with triple features for the Open Wheel Modifieds on February 18th.  For more information on the events please visit www.DIRTCarNationals.com .
