Mars Continues Strong Start to 2014 with Consistent Showing at El Paso MENOMONIE, WI (January 28) - Jimmy Mars and his #28 team were in west Texas over the January 24-26 weekend for the inaugural 'Battle at the Border,' which was held at the 3/8-mile El Paso Speedway Park. The National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) presided over the three-race weekend and Jimmy parlayed his consistent start to 2014 at Tucson International Raceway into even more consistency at the El Paso, Texas facility. The Menomonie, Wisconsin star racked up one Top Five finish and three Top Ten performances at EPSP.
Jimmy's best effort came in Sunday's $5,000 to win finale, as he set fast time in his group during NDRL qualifying prior to picking up the heat race victory. After redrawing the fifth starting spot prior to the 40-lap feature event, Jimmy hung around the top five throughout the distance and eventually nabbed a fifth place finish behind only victor Terry Phillips, Kent Robinson, Billy Moyer, and John Blankenship.
Earlier in the weekend at El Paso, the popular driver known as "The Iceman" drove past eight competitors during Friday's $3,000 to win opener to claim a solid seventh place outing. In Saturday's $5,000 to win tilt, Jimmy ran third in heat race action and later wound up sixth in the final rundown of the caution-free 40-lapper, as he crossed underneath the checkers behind only winner John Blankenship, Kent Robinson, Billy Moyer, Jr., Ryan Gustin, and Terry Phillips. "It was a good weekend for us in El Paso, as we got a little better each night," quoted Mars while traveling back home to Wisconsin yesterday. "Overall, the entire trip to Arizona and Texas was successful and I think we had the most consistent car during the nine-race stretch, as we never finished out of the top ten. I want to thank all of my sponsors for making the trip to the Southwest possible and helping us start our season on a strong note!"
Mars Racing is tentatively planning on making the 'Bama Bash' their next scheduled event. The National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) will hold their first points race of the 2014 season on February 28-March 1 at the historic East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama. The 17th Annual 'Bama Bash' will commence on Friday with qualifying and heat races, while the consolation events and the 75-lap feature will headline the weekend on Saturday. A $17,017 top prize has been established for the winner of the 'Bama Bash,' which is being held at EAMS for the very first time. Additional information can be viewed by pointing your web browser to
