William Thomas Wins Again in Chevrolet Performance Series Competitionby Ben Shelton
PHENIX CITY, Alabama (09/11/13) - William Thomas took his #A19 Alexander's Industrial Services/JW Miller Land & Timber/GRT Super Late Model into battle over the weekend in a pair of $3,000-to-win, Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series events in the state of Mississippi and came away with yet another win in the new series.
Action opened on Saturday evening at Whynot Motorsports Park as 19 entries took to the 1/3 mile oval. William started his night by registering the 2nd fastest time to lock into the 2nd starting spot for the 50 lap finale alongside Tim Busha. Thomas stalked the leader for the first 48 laps before grabbing the lead, heading down the backstretch on lap 48. Exiting turn four to come to the white flag, Busha clipped an infield tire, which sent him up the track into Thomas. William would slow to collect his entry, which allowed Busha and Ronnie Johnson to slip past. He would go on to finish a disappointing 3rd behind race winner, Busha, and Johnson.
Sunday night found the team seeking redemption from the previous night's bad luck as they invaded Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) for another bout. By the time that the final checkered flag of the evening had dropped William had achieved his goal as he pocketed his seventh win of the season!
Twenty-one entries looked to conquer the 3/8 mile oval, and in qualifications Thomas recorded the fastest lap of the night with a 15.908 second circuit. His qualifying effort locked him into the pole position for the feature with Carlton Freeman starting alongside. As the race went green it was 3rd starting Jeremy Shaw, who bolted to the lead with Thomas in tow. Thomas and Shaw put on a great driving displaying throughout the race as they waged war for the top spot. The duo swapped the lead four times with Thomas finally inching ahead on lap 41 for good. He was followed across the finish line by Shaw, Mathew Turner, Kyle Shaw, and Chase Edge.
"It was a blast racing with Jeremy (Shaw) for the win tonight, and it felt even better to get back to victory lane," noted Thomas. "I feel like we got one taken away from us last night so to bounce back tonight was a definite feeling of redemption."
William continues to lead the series' standings with a 38 marker advantage over Ronnie Johnson. Full results from both races as well as the latest standings are available at
