Ray Cook Captures Seventh Victory of 2013 at Needmore; Eyes Trip to Cleveland

BRASSTOWN, NC (August 14) - Ray Cook Racing racked up their seventh feature win of the 2013 campaign on Saturday night, August 10 at the Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Georgia!  Ray Cook clicked off the fastest lap in Group B during Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) qualifying and later started the 40-lap main event from the outside of the front row.  Ray got the jump at the drop of the green flag in the headliner and paced the field from flag-to-flag to score the $4,000 triumph.  The Brasstown, North Carolina ace reached the checkers ahead of Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., William Thomas, Riley Hickman, and Joseph Joiner!

A day earlier, the #53 team was in the pit area at the Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, Georgia for another $4,000 to win SAS showdown.  Ray posted the fifth quickest lap in Group B during time trials, which locked him into the outside of the fifth row for the start of the 40-lapper.  With passing at an absolute premium during the A-Main, Ray was able to move up two spots to claim an eighth place performance.  Complete results from the SAS double-dip can be accessed online at www.sasdirt.com.

“We are just so blessed right now,” commented Cook this week via telephone.  “We haven’t raced as much as we have in past years due to my commitments with the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series, Spring Nationals, and Tri-County Race Track, but when we do race – I think we are more prepared and making the most of it.  It was hard to pass at both Albany and Needmore last weekend, so qualifying was even more important than usual.  Fortunately, we qualified on the front row at Needmore, got the jump at the drop of the green in the feature, and got the win.  I just have to thank everyone that supports our program, from my family and friends to all of our great sponsors and fans!”

Ray and his self-owned team plan to be back in action with the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) this Saturday evening, August 17.  The annual running of the ‘Jean Johnson Memorial’ is scheduled to take place at the historic Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee on Saturday and a $4,000 top prize will be on the line.  Ray was the most recent SAS victor at Cleveland Speedway back on July 13, as he pocketed $4,000 for winning the ‘Stars and Stripes 40’ event.  Additional information on this weekend’s ‘Jean Johnson Memorial’ can be viewed by clicking on www.sasdirt.com.
