Anthony Sanders Set for Return to Super Late Model Competition

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina – After a 4 year absence from the seat of a full powered open competition engine Dirt Late Model Spartanburg, South Carolina’s Anthony Sanders is poised to make his return this Saturday night, July 27th at Modoc Raceway. Sanders will still be aboard the #421 MasterSbilt Race Car that he has been utilizing for Crate Late Model action but it will now get its power from a newly built Super Late Model engine. “My last Super race was back in 2009. I was leasing a Clements engine then to race. But at the end of the year it just wasn’t possible to continue into the next season with the Super motor. The economy slowed down and so did everything else. It just made more sense to run the crate motor races for me. But I have sure missed running the Super races. This is a great opportunity that I am getting. We will still be running some of the crate races but we are going to try to get to as many super shows as we can.” Sanders said.

Sanders return to the Super Late Model ranks comes at the behest of fellow Late Model racer Doug Sanders. Doug is also Anthony’s uncle and has been one of his biggest supporters. Anthony served as crew chief on his uncle’s cars for several years before stepping into his own car several years ago. “Anthony really is a good wheelman. I hated to see him get out of Super Late Models. But I know how tough it is to maintain one nowadays. So when the opportunity came along for me to be able to put a Super Late Model engine together for him, I knew I needed to get it done. No disrespect at all to the guys running crate engines, but there are a lot of new comers and less experienced drivers that run those cars and that tends to lead to a lot of torn up race cars. So I am very happy to be able to get Anthony back in the Super." Doug Sanders commented.

Sanders will return to competition this Saturday night at Modoc Raceway in Modoc, South Carolina. One of Sanders’ favorite racetracks, Modoc is hosting the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series for the Jack Starrette Memorial. Starrette was a racing benefactor to many racers over the years including both Doug and Anthony. So Sanders is quite happy to make his return at this event. “Mr. Starrette was so good to us over the years. He was good to everybody really. So I am glad that everything came together when it did so we can go and participate in the race that honors him. His name was on the last Super car that I drove so it’s only appropriate that this be the race we come back out for.” Sanders added.

Sanders would like to thank all of his dedicated supporters and sponsors including Brown’s Roofing, Scraps for Us, Hamrick’s of Gaffney, Lee Whiteside’s Trucking, FK Rod Ends, Fuji Expresshuns, Parris Construction, TCM, Photos by Ali, Eagle Manufacturing, Butler Built Seating, Indocil Art, Heintz Performance, Keith’s Handyman Service, RE Suspension, Bert Transmission, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Velocita, KELCAR Motorsports Media and Big A’s Custom Graphics.
