Knaub Claims Fourth Late Model Feature at SSP on Saturday Night Newberrytown, PA (July 20) – Dover’s Gene Knaub claimed his fourth Late Model win of the season in the 25-lap Late Model race at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday Night, July 20 for the Silver Spring Speedway Racer Reunion night. Myerstown’s Scott Thunberg won his first Street Stock feature of the year. Scott Dellinger of Lewisberry drove his way to victory in the 25-lap Super Sportsman Tour feature event. Aaron Brommer won the PENNMAR Vintage Car feature event as he has in every PENNMAR feature over the past three years at SSP. The EMMR (Eastern Museum of Motor Racing) Vintage Cars were on hand for an on the track exhibition. In a 25-lap Late Model feature, Randy Christine Jr. grabbed the lead on the start from the pole position. A wild scramble for the runner-up spot ensued early on between Justin Ehrhart, J.R. Rodriguez, Chase Billet and Gene Knaub. As Christine set the pace, Knaub moved into the runner-up spot on lap 7 and took the lead on lap 8 from Christine. Chrstine continued to stay close but was unable to get back by Knaub for the lead. At the end, Knaub took the victory over Christine. Ehrhart finished strong in third, one spot ahead of Rodriguez in fourth. Billy Wampler rounded out the top five. Jed Latshaw started twenty-second and finished eleventh claim the JR’s Paving Hard Charger award of the race. Ehrhart, Christine and John Moser Jr. were the heat race winners. Dan Zechman led the field of Street Stocks to the green for the 20-lapper. Zechman led the first four circuits until Mike Walls took the lead on lap five. Similar to the same story line over the past few races, Randy Zechman moved into the runner-up spot on lap 6. However, once again the story line from there was different as Walls and Zechman swapped contact back and forth while battling for the lead. Finally on lap 16 both cars ended up head first into the turn 2 wall. Scott Thunberg inherited the lead when Walls retired from the race and Zechman went to the rear. Thunberg held on over the final four circuits to take the win over Jim Palm Jr. Chris Derr finished third, followed by Dave Dietz and Jaynee Zeigler rounding out the top five. Dan Zechman and Walls were heat race victors. The 25-lap Super Sportsman Tour feature started off slow with three cautions for accidents on the initial starts. Fearing a fuel stop before getting one complete lap, official’s concerns were negated as the next 17 laps went non-stop with Rick Barr taking the lead over Scott Dellinger and Paul Miller. Dellinger stayed close. On the restart, the positions remained the same. Another caution on lap 22 gave Dellinger another shot at the lead. Coming off turn four after the restart, Dellinger made contact with the low liner Barr, moving him out of the way and took the lead. Dellinger went on to record the victory over Barr at the end. Frank Herr finished third, followed by Russ Mitten who started 21st and finished strong in fourth. Gregg Foster rounded out the top five. Steve and Jay Fannasy as well as Chris Meleason were heat race winners. Rich Eichelberger was the consolation winner. Aaron Brommer continues to dominate the PENNMAR Vintage Cars by leading every lap of the 12 lap feature unchallenged to take the victory. Scott Rickrode finished second followed by Rick Pastor in third. Brommer also won the heat race. Susquehanna Speedway Park “Big Track” Race Results from Saturday, July 20, 2013
