Broniszewski Scores Topless Showdown Win;
Burgoon, Laura Lukon, Torrens Claim Initial 2013 Victories, O'Neill Repeats
PITTSBURGH, PA (July 20)-- Mother Nature's predicted rain drops never fell and race fans were treated to an excellent night of motorsports action at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway as second generation racer Brandon Burgoon overcame a mechanical problem early in the evening to score his first win of the season in Diehl of Robinson Super Late Model action. Other winners included Laura Lukon who claimed her first win at the Monster Half Mile since 2007 in the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro-Late Models and Jeff Broniszewski, who was the victor in the Topless 20 Sportsman Showdown event. Robbie Torrens was the winner in Miley BP Carwash Hobby Stock action and Roman O'Neill won the Imperial Heights Young Guns main event.
McDonald resident Brandon Burgoon was finally able to score his first victory in the Diehl of Robinson Super Late Model feature event this Saturday. After a fuel pump problem sidelined him in preliminary action, Burgoon was forced to start in the 13th spot for the main event. Jim Stephans led the first circuit before Daryl Charlier took over the top spot on the second lap. Charlier would lead the next three laps before Stephans battled back and reclaimed the top spot. Stephans would lead for two more circuits before Burgoon would take over on lap nine. Burgoon led the remainder of the 25 lap event to score his first victory of the 2013 season in the Todd's Auto Body Rocket Chassis. Alex Ferree, who has been the hottest driver on the Western PA circuit in recent weeks got by Stephans with two laps to go and claimed the runner-up spot. Stephans, Ben Miley and Ed Ferree rounded out the top five.
Michael Norris and Kyle Lukon won the Super Late Model heat events while Burgoon scored the Awesome Hard Charger Award as he advanced 12 spots in the 25 lap main event.
Lady racer Laura Lukon scored a very popular win in the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro-Late Model main event. Lukon led the 20 lap event for the entire distance and drove a flawless race to score her first victory at "Dirt's Monster Half Mile" in more than five years. Mark Moats claimed the second spot over Kyle Lukon, Colton Flinner and Tommy Schirnhofer.
Laura Lukon and Moats were victorious in the Pro-Late prelims.
Jarrod Westover and Gary Koteles led the Late Model Sportsman Topless 20 to the green but fifth place starter Jeff Bronsizewski would lead the first circuit with Koteles, Nick Kocuba, Bill Robertson and Brian Huckko battling for positions two through five. The lone caution waved on lap two when Christian Schneider slowed in turn three. When racing resumed Broniszewski set sail and cruised to his fourth victory of the season. Bill Roberston claimed the runner-up spot followed by Koteles, Kocuba and Huchko. The battle waged by Koteles, Kocuba, Huchko, Pat Weldon and Vince Laboon for the third through seventh spots saw the drivers battling three and four wide for the entire distance of the main event without ever touching each other.
Robertson and Weldon claimed the Sportsman heats.
The Hobby Stock finale saw veteran Robbie Torrens score his first win in more than five years in a car that just 24 hours earlier was sitting in a nearby farmer's field. Hannah Ramsey led the first circuit before Torrens took command and went on to score the victory over Chase Evans, Ramsey, Alec Bronsizweski and Dan Black.
Torrens was also victorious in the lone Hobby Stock heat event.
Roman O'Neill led the entire distance of the Young Guns main event to pick up his second victory of the season. O.B. Huff, Karlee Kovacs, Jonathan Miller and David Ostrander rounded out the top five. Michael Jackson and Dylan Bolind complete the field as a season high seven cars competed in the entry level division.
