Kyle Beard and Ashley Newman Claim Weekend Wins for Upton Motorsports

by Ben Shelton
MERCER, Tennessee (05/29/13) –  The Memorial Day weekend was an extremely busy time for Upton Motorsports drivers, Kyle Beard & Ashley Newman, as they entered an array of events across the southeast and came away with a pair of wins to show for their efforts.

Kyle Beard and Upton Motorsports competed in the opening round of the 21st Annual Lucas Oil Show Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) on Thursday evening with their #86 Greg's Sawmill/Pierce/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

An extremely talented field of seventy-three Super Late Models registered for battle in the $5,000-to-win program, which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil MLRA tour.  Pill draw determined the heat race line up, and Kyle started second and led early in his heat before settling for a second place finish, which locked him into the fifteenth starting spot for the 40 lap feature.  Early in the feature he battled around mid-pack before the handle began to go away on his entry, and he faded to a twenty-fifth place finish.  Full results from Thursday's program are available at www.MLRARacing.com .

On Friday evening the qualifying events for the $30,000-to-win, 21st Annual Show Me 100 were held at Lucas Oil Speedway, and seventy-two entries registered for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) program.  Time trials found Beard struggling on a rough track, and as a result he started twelfth in his heat race grid.  He advanced to an eighth place finish in his heat, which left him well short of advancing to the feature.

On Saturday night Beard started deep in a b-main, and while he failed to reach a transfer spot to the feature with a fifth place finish he did earn the seventh starting spot in the $2,000-to-win, Midwest Sheet Metal Non-Qualifier's Race. Early in the 20 lap affair Beard raced to as high as the third position before settling into a fifth place finish behind race winner, Mike Marlar, Travis Dickes, Randy Weaver, and Tanner English.  Full results from the event are available at www.LucasDirt.com .

Ashley Newman entered a NeSmith Weekly Crate Late Model program at Clayhill Motorsports (Atwood, Tennessee) on Saturday evening in an event that drew sixteen entries.  Mechanical issues in the feature found Newman only being able to manage a thirteenth place finish in the feature.  Full results are available at www.ClayhillMotorsports.com .

Sunday night found Upton Motorsports drivers Ashley Newman and Kyle Beard making the trip to Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi), where Kyle powered to the Super Late Model win over Bo Gordon, Bubba Harrison, Duke Palasini, and Phil Sluder.  The win was his second of the year!

Ashley Newman was also victorious on Sunday night at Greenville Speedway as he powered his #73 Upton Motorsports Pierce Crate Late Model to the win in the NeSmith Weekly Crate Late Model event.  He started fourth before charging to the lead and the win over Mike Palasini Jr., Greg Fore, Bobby Jordan, and Kody Mea.  The triumph marked his first victory of 2013!  Full results from the program are available at www.GreenvilleSpeedway.net .

Newman closed his weekend on Sunday evening with a NeSmith Weekly Crate Late Model event at Clayhill Motorsports (Atwood, Tennessee), where he recorded a second place finish to race winner, Jeff Glisson.  Full results are available at www.ClayhillMotorsports.com .

This Saturday, June 1st Beard and Newman will resume action with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Super Late Model Series (CCSDS) Super Late Models at Diamond Park Speedway (Nashville, Arkansas).  Beard is currently third in the standings just four points out of the lead, and Newman is tied for fourth in the overall standings and leads the Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year standings.  For more information on the event, please visit www.COMPDirt.com .
