William Thomas Wins $2,500 at GVS; TST Up Next

by Ben Shelton
PHENIX CITY, Alabama (05/01/13) - It was an up and down weekend for William Thomas as he participated in a trio of events in Alabama and Georgia.

The weekend started at Green Valley Speedway (Glencoe, Alabama) with the Crate and Limited Late Model Nationals, which was slated to feature $2,500-to-win programs for each division each night.  On Friday evening William started his night by powering his #22 Thomas Motorsports Mastersbilt Limited Late Model to fast time honors over with a lap that was a half second faster than the twenty-two car field to lock into the pole position for the feature.  The initial start would see sparks fly as Thomas and fellow front row starter, Kenny Compton made contact exiting turn two as the duo spun and collected several other cars.  Luckily William would be able to continue despite body damage and a broken, left-rear shock, and the field lined up for a complete restart with Thomas on the pole.  He would go on to snag the lead as the race successfully started.  Once out front he never looked back on his way to the win, which came over Joe Armistead, Heath Hindman, Gar Dixon, and TJ Alford.

In the Crate Late Model division Thomas again qualified fastest in the twenty-four car field to earn the pole for the feature in his #A19 GRT entry.  He led the majority of the feature before a flat tire on a late-race restart relegated him to a disappointing seventeenth place finish.  Full results from both divisions are available at www.GreenValleySpeedway.com .

Saturday night's portion of the program at Green Valley Speedway fell victim to Mother Nature, and as a result William returned home and entered a NeSmith Weekly Late Model Series event at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama), where he finished in the second spot in the feature behind race winner, Montana Dudley.  Full results from the event are available at www.EAMSDirt.com .

"It was a wild weekend for sure," notes Thomas.  "I really felt like we should've left Green Valley with two wins, but that flat tire just bit us.  Either way we had a great car in both divisions."

This Saturday, May 4th William Thomas will invade Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) for a $4,000-to-win, Southern All Star (SAS) Super Late Model event at the 1/3 mile oval.  For more information on the program please visit www.SASDirt.com .
