Brian Birkhofer Set for Weekend Off Following East Coast Swing MUSCATINE, IA (April 24) - The Birkhofer Racing team was in action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in a doubleheader on April 20-21 in the states of Maryland and West Virginia. On Saturday at the legendary Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland, Brian Birkhofer timed in eleventh fastest in Group B during the qualifying session and later placed sixth in his heat race. Following a strong runner-up effort in his B-Main, Brian started twentieth on the grid in the $10,000 to win feature event. During the course of the 50-lapper, the Muscatine, Iowa native ran into problems around the halfway point in the race and wound up twenty-third in the final rundown.
Things went much smoother on Sunday evening at the reconfigured West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, West Virginia. Brian posted the third quickest lap in Group B prior to taking the win in his loaded heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the front row in the $10,000 to win A-Main, "Birky" led the first 32 circuits of the 50-lap race. In the waning laps, Brian's soft tire combination caused him to slide back to finish fourth at WVMS behind only winner Eddie Carrier, Jr., Josh Richards, and Don O'Neal. The #15b team has opted to take the upcoming April 26-27 weekend off from racing action. They will instead use that time to start prepping for their next races, which will take place on May 3-4 in the states of Illinois and Kentucky. The Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois and the Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Kentucky will both play host to $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series programs over the first weekend in May.
