Eddie Carrier Jr. Blisters East Coast in Weekend Action with Pair of Wins

by Ben Shelton
SALT ROCK, West Virginia (04/24/13) - Up until this past weekend  the 2013 campaign hadn't gone the way that Eddie Carrier Jr. wanted in his #28 Grover Motorsports/Rocket/Grover Racing Engine Super Late Model, but he changed that with two big wins in three nights of action

The action began with $4,000 triumph at 201 Speedway (Sitka, Kentucky) on Thursday night for his first victory of the year!  Thirty-eight Super Late Models registered for battle, and the evening began with Eddie setting not only fast time in his group, but fast time overall with a 13.152 second lap around the clay oval. His qualifying effort locked him into a front row starting spot alongside DJ Wells.  As the 40 lap finale went green it was third starting Jackie Boggs, who jumped to the lead for a pair of circuits before RJ Conley took his own turn at the front of the field for the next 19 laps.  While the lead changed hands amongst the two drivers, Eddie Carrier Jr. lurked in the shadows and took over the lead on lap 22. Once out front Carrier Jr. received multiple challenges, but ultimately slipped away from his foes to claim the victory with Rod Conley, RJ Conley, Victor Lee, and Steve Casebolt rounding out the top five.

"It's definitely been a rough start to the year for us, but tonight was just a great night for the team," an elated Carrier Jr. commented minutes after claiming the win. "That race was a lot of fun tonight, and hats off to me team and sponsors for their great support. It sure feels good to get that first win of the season!"

Full results from the event are available at www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com.

On the heels of Thursday night's win in Kentucky Eddie prepared for a tripleheader with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).  The start to the weekend was delayed courtesy of a rain-induced postponement at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex (Markleysburg, Pennsylvania) on Friday night.  As a result the team returned to action on Saturday evening at the historic Hagerstown Speedway (Hagerstown, Maryland) with the $10,000-to-win, Stanley Schetrompf Memorial.  Thirty-four entries were on hand for the program at the 1/2 mile oval, and a second place finish in his heat race locked Eddie into the sixth starting spot for the feature event.  He would race in the top ten for the duration of the event before crossing the finish line in the tenth position.

Sunday evening found Carrier Jr. in action in West Virginia as he traveled to the recently reconfigured, West Virginia Motor Speedway (Mineral Wells, West Virginia).  It would prove to be a great night for Eddie and Grover Motorsports at the 4/10 mile oval as he claimed his first ever win at the facility!

Eddie began his night by winning the fourth heat race to lock into the fourth starting spot for the 50 lap finale. During the first half of the event Carrier Jr. lurked at the front of the field before overtaking leader Brian Birkhofer on lap 33 for the top spot.  Once out front he never looked back on his way to his fourth career LOLMDS victory, and his second victory of the 2013 season.  He was followed across the finish line by Josh Richards, Don O'Neal, Brian Birkhofer, and Jimmy Owens.

"It feels pretty good to finally win here, so close to Rocket Chassis. West Virginia has been my home-state since I moved from Kentucky back in '02," said Carrier in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. "To win on this stage, with the caliber of drivers here, they are the best of the best no doubt about it, that's why this is so special, the car was excellent today from the time we unloaded it out of the trailer."

Eddie sits tenth in the latest LOLMDS standings.  Full results from both events and the latest standings are available at www.LucasDirt.com.

The team plans to not race anywhere this weekend as they prepare for the next pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) events, which will be held May 3rd and 4th at Tri City Speedway (Pontoon Beach, Illinois) and Paducah International Raceway (Paducah, Kentucky).  For more information on the events, please visit www.LucasDirt.com .
