Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series 311 Speedway April 6, 2013 ________________________________________
Davenport stays hot with Carolina Clash Series victory at 311 Speedway
Clash PR MADISON, NC (April 6) - Jonathan Davenport has made a statement and that is not good for all other super late model racers in the near future because the AES Racing, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas Barry Wright Race Car, powered by Clements Racing Engines and guided by Ohlins Shocks has set 2013 on fire with a myriad fast times, big leads and huge wins. One week removed from the $30,000 Carolina Crown win at Lancaster Super Speedway, Davenport entered 311's Clash race with more momentum than a fullback into a 75-yard sprint to the end zone. "I cannot thank Ohlins shocks enough for their support and the way this thing is able to hook to the ground. I think we have found something here. I just can't thank all my sponsors and race team enough for their hard work and support." Davenport claimed his first 311 Motor Speedway win with the Carolina Clash, making him the 13th different winner in the series at the Pine Hall, NC super speedway. Kennie Compton, Jr. of Bland, VA was fastest in qualifying and picked up the Roush Yates Performance Products Fast Time Award. He led the early part of the event for the first 18 laps. However, a restart on lap 19 would put Davenport on the outside and made the pass over Compton, as the #10 car began to have issues in the corners. Compton would eventually fall out of the race with 14 laps to go as the driveshaft broke beneath the car and went flying into the air entering turn one. Early action saw the field in and around one another, but hard crashes involving Michael Marlowe in a single car wreck on the back stretch slowed the field. On the restart, Tim Allen's hot streak came to an abrupt end in the first six laps with mechanical trouble.
A massive seven-car pileup caused a lengthy delay and claimed Wayne Hughes, Damon Kotke, and Bubba McGee. Ricky Weeks righted his season and saved his tires until the end of the race and finished a season-best second. Luke Roffers was third, while Ross Bailes, Dennis Franklin, Scott Autry and Dustin Mitchell battled among the top seven. Mitchell pitted late in the race, after running second for a while. Johnny Pursley had to use a provisional starting spot and raced through the field to a seventh-place finish. It would be the Hard Charger of the Race and was awarded a one point bonus for that effort. The race was the season opener for 311 Motor Speedway and featured the third different winner of the season for Clash.
The next two races will feature a return to old friends of the Carolina Clash. They will be at Gordon Park Speedway in Grovetown, GA on April 27 and Cherokee Speedway on May 11th.
