DROWN, WISECARVER, GARDNER, PRIEBE & BUBECK CLAIM OPENING NIGHT WINS AT HILLTOP SPEEDWAY

MILLERSBURG, OH (March 30) - Hilltop Speedway swung open the gates for a full house on the first night of the season on a cool night but the action was mid season form. Charlie Duncan led the Holmes Tire Late Models to the green flag and set the pace for the opening three circuits before Dzugan Fire & Rescue Fast Qualifier Doug Drown of Wooster powered past to take the point. Duncan would hang tough for the next five laps but Drown would start to pull away as George Lee started to pester Duncan for second. Lee could never get past Duncan and in the closing laps, Steve Prince challenged Lee for third but came up short to take fourth as heat winner Wayne Maffett Jr. ran fifth. For Drown, driving the Weekley Electric #63, it was his 20th all time win at Hilltop.

Heat winners Kevin Morehouse and Gary Clark started on the front row of the Raceday Photos Modified main with Morehouse grabbing the lead as Fast Timer and Dash winner Jesse Wisecarver charged into second. The Zanesville driver would take the lead from Morehouse on lap 6 and never look back aboard the Outlaw 101. At the halfway mark, Jess Hartman slipped past Morehouse for second and they would go side by side for the next three laps with Hartman claiming second. Vic Hottinger and John Sluka filled out the top five.

Brandon Gardner and Bob Daugherty posted the heat wins for the Street Stocks to start on the front row of their feature with Gardner of Miamisburg jumping into the lead at the drop of the green. Kyle Moore quickly took over second and spent the whole race trying to track down the #27g of Gardner to no avail as he would post his 39th win all time at Hilltop. Bob Chilcote and Ryan Wisecarver dueled for third with Chilcote winning the battle as Mitch Caskey rounded out the top five.

Mechanical woes knocked out first lap leader Dustin Daugherty in the Thompson Garage Mini Stock feature as Killbuck's James Priebe would inherit the lead and then fend off Jerry Adkins all race long to put the #7 in victory lane. Finishing second to Billy Parsons in the Last Chance race, Brad Hensel climbed through the field from 18th starting spot to grab third in the feature. A three way battle for fourth saw Terry Adkins hold off brothers Blaine and Kevin Markey. Heat winners were Daugherty, Priebe, T. Adkins and B. Markey. A 4th lap red flag for Chris Priebe, who rolled over as Greg Thompson  hit a ute tire straight on at full speed and went ovet top of the tire. Thompson was transported fo observatory reasons.

Warsaw's Cole Lillibridge ended last season with a feature win in the Bugs-R-Gone Trucks and started out this season by going flag to flag for the opening night win aboard the #52 truck. John Large gave a race long run in second as it got a little testy in the final few laps between Rolly Heyder and David Potts as Potts bounced of the back stretch wall as Heyder was black flagged for rough driving. Kevin Potts finished third with David Potts hanging on to fourth with Brad Phillips bringing home fifth. Lillibridge and D. Potts won the heats.

Phil Bubeck and Blake Morris started in the second row of the Mini Wedge main but both were one-two by the end of the first lap and they would go back and forth all race long for the lead and when the checkered flag waved, Colliers W.Va's Bubeck #4 won by inches over Morris. Nick Large, Braxton Wilson and Hannah Rose rounded out the top five as Tyler Tennant, Large and Morris topped the heats.

Regular action continues next Saturday night at Hilltop Speedway with the Mod Lites added to the racing card.
