POSTPONED AGAIN, WEATHER AGAIN PROVES UNCOOPERATIVE TO HAGERSTOWN BRAWLHAGERSTOWN, MD. – Postponed Again! Last week, the still wintery forecast resulted in a “Same time next weekend” postponement for the Brawl in the Fall. Well, next weekend arrived and a duplicate wintery forecast resulted in the event being postponed again. Would it be better to rename it the Rain Date Race?
Was there any thought of needing a rain date on the rain date’s rain date? Hardly, but the speedway cannot control Mother Nature!
Bear in mind, in the interest of travel distances and allowing fans and teams to make plans, the decision to postpone was made late Friday afternoon when Sunday’s forecast called for mid-30 degree temperatures and potential arrival of another snow storm. There has been little change since.
Temperatures have remained below average, however, Saturday’s test and tune session was still not even close last year’s nearly 80 degree day for the session (held a week earlier) and then the season opener this same weekend was lost to heavy rains.
The speedway’s concern is having the event ran when fans are not subject to sitting in freezing temperatures, nor having drivers race under those conditions which also is detrimental to engine performance.
Hagerstown’s web site invites emails to the speedway at info@hagerstownspeedway.com with suggestions as to event completion options.
The speedway will hard to accommodate fans and teams to the best of our ability but knowing that we cannot please everyone. As the four divisions compete regularly on Saturdays, we hope to find a suitable Sunday date to please the majority of those responding.
