American Steve Francis takes opening round of the Supatilt Wild West Tour at the Perth Motorplex

LMRA Racing
PERTH, Western Australia (December 27) - Francis dominated proceedings again just like he did the previous night during the preliminary part of the opening round. The Ozmine Rocket was on rails all night at the high banked Perth Motorplex with Francis winning the twenty five lap A Main comfortably over Jamie & Warren Oldfield.

A number of drivers failed to front up for night two after sustaining too much damage from the opening nights racing including Ben Nicastri from New South Wales. Brad Ludlow and his younger brother Ryan Ludlow were also absent from the second night.

The Late Models would only contest one round of heats for the evening with the opening heat seeing the two visiting Americans Steve Francis and Devin Moran sharing the front row. Francis would lead the early laps with Moran in hot pursuit.

Moran would slow with engine issues shortly after and retire from the race. Francis would go onto win by a big margin over Matt Goodlad, Ben Ludlow, Mark Matthews and Dean King. Both Matt & David Nylander would retire from heat one along with Matt Noakes who suffered major engine dramas and would be sidelined for the rest of the night.

Devin Moran’s night would also be over due to the engine damage sustained in the heat race.

Heat two would see Craig Vosbergen show the potential of his brand new Rocket chassis with a handy win over Jamie & Warren Oldfield.

The Late Models would contest two six lap dashes to decide the starting positions for the all important A main.

The A Dash would see American Steve Francis dominate once again winning the A Dash in a new record time over Craig Vosbergen and Warren Oldfield.

Jamie Oldfield would charge away from Matt Goodlad in the B Dash with Brad Blake showing some speed in his Bunbury Honda & KIA backed entry to finish third.

Sixteen cars would start the A Main for Round One of the 2012/2013 Supatilt Wild West Tour with Steve Francis and Jamie Oldfield sharing the front row.

Francis would set a cracking pace in the early stages with Oldfield, Vosbergen and Goodlad having a torrid battle for the minor placings.

A restart would occur after six laps for after a spring would fall onto the track from the car of Jeremy Hale.

Brad Blake would suffer a flat tyre while in contention for a top five placing and would circulate on the bottom of the racetrack for many laps. South Australian Matt Crimmins would also retire shortly after with the infield starting to resemble a parking lot.

With three laps remaining a restart would occur with Francis brought back to the field after enjoying a healthy lead. After the restart Jay Cardy and Jac Dolmans would make contact in turn one while battling for sixth place. Both cars would retire to the infield with Ben Ludlow also sustaining damage in the incident. Ludlow would continue in the event albeit with a lot of front end damage.

Francis would never be caught and would win the opening round comfortably over Jamie Oldfield with Warren Oldfield charging through the field late in the race to climb onto the podium.

Matt Goodlad, Craig Vosbergen, Michael Holmes, Dean King and Ben Ludlow would round out the finishers.

Francis was a little exhausted after the twenty five lap journey, “Man that was hard work that was probably the hardest I have worked for a win in a long time. The track was a little demanding but my guys got the Ozmine car setup the way I liked it and we got the win. Big thanks to my crew and my car owner Michael Holmes, we all worked so hard today in this hot weather so it’s satisfying to win”.

The Supatilt Wild West Tour now heads to the high speed Manjimup Speedway in the South West of Western Australia on Saturday December 29th 2012.
