Dowdy Finishes 11th in Topless Brawl Limited’s, Alabama State Championship Up Next

WATERLOO, AL (09/26/12) – Mark Dowdy Racing was in competition at Thunderhill Raceway’s Topless Brawl II this past Saturday September 22nd, 2012 for the $1000 to-win limited late model finishing eleventh in the Pittman Dutton & Hellums Law Firm/Rather Sewer Inspection Services/FK Rod Ends/Maniac Race Engine/ Warrior.
 
Dowdy and team coming off a rough week were the team had engine failure during qualifying of last week’s race regrouped and installed the repaired Maniac Race engine early Friday night and returned to Thunderhill Raceway (Summertown, Tn.) for the annual Topless Brawl paying $1000 to-win for the limited late model portion of the event.
 
Dowdy qualified 9th out of the 14 cars in competition for the 30 lap $1000 to-win event, setting up a mid pack battle for position to the $1000 pay day. Dowdy and team were determined and made minor adjustments to the Warrior chassis after the brief hot lap session before the feature events.
 
Starting 9th on the grid, Dowdy and the rest of the field came down to the green flag, all bunched together in a hornet’s nest Dowdy held tight exiting turn two holding the 9th spot when the first caution would wave for a slowed car. The field bunched back up for a complete restart. As the field took the green for the restart Dowdy hunkered down to the bottom of the raceway till the coast was clear to move up a groove and let the Warrior chassis do work, Dowdy began to charge forward and gain position eight then seven. During the pass for position seven, Dowdy got a run coming out of turn four running the low line on the #B20 of Boone Fullwood. Fullwood and Dowdy made contact, Dowdy’s Warrior Chassis’s front end did a wheel stand quickly and came down and Dowdy charged on to the seventh spot. Another lap would go by and a car would spin and the second caution waved on lap 10. On the restart Dowdy, held his seventh spot until exiting turn two when Dowdy was forced up out of his groove he was running causing Dowdy to lose the seventh spot and down to eight. Caution would wave once more on lap 12 for a fluid on the raceway. The restart green flag waved with Dowdy in eight, going into turn one Dowdy and the #B20 of Fullwood connected once again, Fullwood would spin into the infield and caution would wave once again. Under caution, the #B20 showed his displeasure by bending a little sheet metal on the 88D of Dowdy. Officials gave both Dowdy and Fullwood a not so good award (black flag) and were sent to the pits for the night, ending what looked to be a great run for the Mark Dowdy Race team. Dowdy and team would end the night with an 11th place finish.
 
Mark Dowdy Racing will be traveling southeast this upcoming weekend Sept. 27th-30th for The Alabama State Championship at East Alabama Speedway (Phenix City, AL) Dowdy and Team will be competing in the $5000 To-Win Late Model Sportsman portion of the weekend’s events.
