NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR JULY 16

CARTERSVILLE, GA – There were several position changes during Week 16 competition in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series.  The top two spots remain the same with Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS leading with 781 points and Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA is second with 773 points.  Five of the top six drivers in the standings have now reached the 14-week mark.

Lee and Trosclair faced off on Saturday night at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS with Trosclair finishing second in the J. Dunning Sandblasting and Painting Special and Lee taking the third spot in the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star.  Trosclair netted eight points and Lee netted six points on their respective best 14-week point totals.

Ryan King of Seymour, TN used his last week to earn full points by driving the Brian King Roofing Stinger to a fourth-place finish on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN to earn 47 points and bring his 14-week point total to 764 points.  King climbed up to the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings.

Top ten NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series drivers Brett Barrett of Cleveland, MS and Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS did not compete in Week 16 competition and dropped to the fourth and sixth spots respectively in the standings.  Barrett has 755 points in the Custom Spraying GRT and Jordan has 730 points in the Henderson Waste and Recycling Trak-Star.

Chase Washington of Houlka, MS traveled to Malden Speedway in Malden, MO on Friday night where he picked up his eighth win of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season and moved up from the seventh spot in the standings to fifth with 731 points driving the Jerry Inmon Racing Special.  Trosclair also made the 520-mile trip to Missouri from Louisiana and finished second.

Look for Washington to move up the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, as he still has one more week to earn full points.  The drivers from seventh through tenth in the points chase for the $10,000 championship have either one or two weeks left to earn full points and move up in the standings.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS made a big jump in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with his first win of the season on Saturday night at Pike County Speedway driving the Billy Riels Racing/Reynolds Motorsports GRT.

Arnold’s 50-point win and the 25 Bonus Points he earned for his fourth straight week of series competition vaulted him from tenth to seventh with 700 points.  Arnold still has one more week to earn full points before reaching the 14-week mark.

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL traveled to Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday night to earn 47 points after driving the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star to a fourth-place finish.  That kept Shaw in the eighth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 691 points, and he still has two more weeks to earn full points.

Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 16 competition and dropped from sixth to ninth in the standings with 687 points.  Bridgeman still has one more week to earn full points driving the Robinson Electric Rocket.

Corey Hedgecock of Loudon, TN moved into the Top 10 of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase after he drove the Eagle Racing Engines Special to a sixth-place finish on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway.  Hedgecock holds down the tenth and final points fund-paying spot with 667 points and he still has one more week to earn full points.

Three drivers that are currently outside the Top 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings served notice in Week 16 competition that they too will be ones to watch in the coming weeks as they earn more Bonus Points and get closer to the 14-week mark of their respective seasons.

Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN drove the CVR Race Cars Special to his third straight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway.  Beeler only has five weeks of competition under his belt, but there are still 11 weeks left in the 2012 season.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL picked up his sixth win of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT.  Gauldin, who finished third in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings, is 32nd in the point standings, has four more weeks to earn full points, and can still earn 50 more Bonus Points.

Joey Thomas of Seale, AL notched his seventh victory of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season in the BTR/Scorpion Race Cars Special on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.  Thomas is 26th in the point standings, can earn full points for another three weeks, and can still earn another 75 Bonus Points.

Rain washed out four NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 16 events at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Week 16 wins by Arnold and Gauldin brought the defending and four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR into a tie for the point lead with two-time Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL.  Both chassis builders have 21 wins so far this season.

Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN remains in the third spot with five wins and Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV is fourth with four wins.  Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fifth with three wins and TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is still looking for their first win of the season.
