Brian Birkhofer Readies for Granite City and Wheatland Following Up and Down Week

MUSCATINE, IA (July 13) - The Birkhofer Racing team will invade the Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois and the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri this weekend (July 13-14) for a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series showdowns. Both one-day programs will be headlined by $10,000 to win feature events and will be taped for broadcast by the Lucas Oil Productions Studios. Brian Birkhofer has picked up several special event wins at each facility in recent years, including last year's inaugural version of the 'Battle at the Beach' at Granite City. Additional information on the LOLMDS doubleheader can be viewed online at www.lucasdirt.com.

Last week saw the #15b team compete in a pair of high-profile events from July 4-7. On Wednesday night at the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois, Brian celebrated Independence Day in style, as he captured his second feature win of 2012. After winning his heat race, Brian led all forty circuits in the UMP Summer Nationals main event to score the $5,000 payday over Frank Heckenast, Jr., Brandon Sheppard, Ryan Unzicker, and Jason Feger!

Brian and the team then rolled into the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota on Saturday evening for the annual running of the prestigious 'Gopher 50.' The Muscatine, Iowa driver laid down the sixth quickest lap during World of Outlaws Late Model Series qualifying at Deer Creek and later ran second in his loaded heat race. After drawing the fifth starting spot prior to the $10,000 to win feature event, Brian was running solidly in fourth on lap 29 when he was unfortunately caught up in a wreck that was started by lapped cars in front of him. "Birky" was forced to retire from the 50-lapper and was relegated to a disappointing twenty-first place effort. A detailed race-by-race recap from Brian's most recent events are chronicled online at www.brianbirkhoferracing.com.

"I was pleased with the performance of our cars last week, but we just didn't get the finish we obviously wanted at Deer Creek," commented Birkhofer this week. "Our black car has reeled off a couple of Summer Nationals wins recently at Paducah and LaSalle, so we changed our yellow car to match what we were doing setup-wise on our other car. It felt a lot better at Deer Creek, but we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time with that wreck. I feel good where our program is heading right now and hopefully we can run up front against the Lucas Oil guys this weekend at Granite City and Wheatland!"
