Phillips Nets Hat Trick in MLRA Midwest Trifecta at I-80 Speedway MLRA PR
GREENWOOD, NE (June 29) - The Annual Midwest Trifecta proved to be a good one. Terry Phillips used the top side of the I-80 Speedway in turns one and two, and pinned John Anderson to the bottom of turns three and four, to secure the lead, and his third Lucas Oil MLRA victory in as many races. "A big race track is a little harder on tires," said Phillips following the win. "(I) kind of saved my stuff to the end. Not that I was saving it a lot. I was having to hustle the car pretty good. When you're leading you don't know where to go for sure, and I took advantage of that." Phillips narrowly escaped a multi car pile up, with 14 laps to go, as Denny Eckrich was sideways in the middle of one and two. Bill Koons and Mark Dotson were also involved. Phillips made contact with Dotson on the right side of his car, but the damage didn't hinder him.
Anderson and Chad Simpson started on the front row of the thirty-five lap feature. The two veterans worked side by side for the first several laps. Anderson was able to overtake Simpson on lap eight and finish second. Simpson settled into third, but charged late to make it interesting.
The four heat races were won by Terry Phillips, Travis Dickes, John Anderson and Chad Simpson.
