Chris Madden Dominates County Line Ultimate SLM Series Event

Elm City, North Carolina – Chris “Smokey” Madden picked up his second ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series of the 2012 season on Friday night at County Line Speedway in dominating fashion. The 36-year-old Madden, who hails from Gray Court, South Carolina, piloted his Bloomquist Race Car to VP Race Fuels Fast Time and then led all 40 laps of the A-Main to take home the $4000 winner’s purse and become the first repeat winner of the season. Madden previously picked up a $4000 win at Cleveland County Speedway in April.

27 cars signed in for stop number 4 of the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series with 26 taking time. Madden toured the 3/8ths mile oval located in Elm City, North Carolina at 15.396 seconds which bested Benji Cole’s second-quick 15.465 second lap. ULTIMATE Super Late Model point leader Casey Roberts was third quick followed by local hotshoe Dustin Mitchell, Christian Joyner, Russell Erwin, Zack Mitchell, Travis Hair, Daulton Wilson and Daniel Baggerly. Consolation winners were Casey Barrow and Cy Nelms.

Madden led the field to green and grabbed the point headed in to turn one. Cole was left to fight with Roberts for the runner-up position. Roberts and Cole raced door-to-door until a lap 3 caution for a slowed Daniel Baggerly. Cole held the advantage when crossing the line and assumed the spot on the restart. Madden held charge as the field returned to green flag racing and yet again Cole and Roberts locked horns for the runner-up spot.

As the leaders began to catch up to the tail of the field, the top 4 bunched up in a tight pack. However Madden was able to work his way through traffic and seemed to catch lappers at the perfect times to get by cleanly. Cole, however, wasn’t as fortunate. As he looked for a way around one of the lapped machines he found himself hung-up on the highside, which allowed Roberts and Mitchell to take advantage and roll by. Up front, Madden began to pull away as Mitchell looked to mount a challenge on Roberts. Mitchell could sneak a peak low through turns one and two only to have Roberts motor away on the backstretch.

Madden flashed across the line at the 10:40 PM checkered flag to take the win with a 1.5 second margin of victory over Roberts. “We had a great race car. The JRI Shock package we have is just awesome. These guys have worked hard and gave me a great race car and we were able to show just how strong we were. We took care of our tires early on and then just made sure we didn’t get in any trouble with lapped cars. I really need to thank Baird Transport, Hamricks of Gaffney, KC Transport, Henderson Amusement and Elite Concrete along with Bloomquist Race Cars and Cornett Race Engines for this win.” Madden said from VP Race Fuels / Hoosier Race Tires Victory Lane.

The Series now moves north to Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway tomorrow for the $10,000 to Mid-Atlantic Championship presented by FK Rod Ends.
