OPENER; LEE SWIPES LATE MODEL WIN; WISECARVER, HENSEL JR., POTTS & McLOUGHLIN COLLECT CHECKERS

Millersburg, Ohio (May 5) - The pits and grandstands were jammed packed at Hilltop Speedway Saturday night for the 1st ever Renegades of Dirt Modifieds Tour plus all the regular divisions that saw 166 cars put their tires on the fast racing surface. Five different states were represented for the opener of the Renegades of Dirt Modified tour and when the 25 lap main took the green flag, Josh Morrow and Lance Elson led the 20 car field and as the pack was coming out of turn four for the 1st time, Morrow got sideways that collected six other cars to bring out the caution. Everyone was able to restart with Morrow going to the tail. That would move Tyler Carpenter to the pole position alongside Elson and with the green flying again, Elson and his Unique Walls & Ceilings and Mack’s Dry Wall #17e, secured the point with Carpenter, Nick Hoffman, Jeremy Berwanger, and Jesse Hartman in tow. Carpenter, Hoffman and Berwanger wheeled and dealed for second. A lap ten caution flew when Kevin Morehouse got into Jesse Hartman that sent Morehouse to the end of the line. Berwanger dropped out of competition on lap 15 as ninth starting Rick Aukland  picked off Jesse Hartman for fourth as Bart Hartman put the pressure on Jesse for fifth. All this time Elson of Wellsburg WVa was extending his lead with Carpenter and Hoffman duking it out for second and with seven circuits to go Bart Hartman moved into fifth ahead of Jesse Hartman. As the checkered flag was raised, Elson had almost a straight away lead over Carpenter who edged out Hoffman for second with Aukland and Bart Hartman, who started 17th, filling out the top five. Fast qualifier was D J Cline as heat winners were Hoffman, Carpenter, Morrow, Elson and Jesse Wisecarver with the three last chance wins going to Larry Kugel, Bart Hartman and Bobby Kitchens.

The Holmes Tire Late Models started with Bryan Casey setting the pace for the opening three laps from the pole but he gave way to Freddy Carpenter with low running KC Burdette and high flying George Lee going back and forth for second two laps later after they both passed Casey, Carpenter was cruising along with a comfortable lead as Burdette and Lee went side by side for second as Corey Conley and two time winner at Hilltop, Devin Moran in fifth. With four laps to go, Carpenter lost air in his right rear, as he stopped to bring out the caution, giving Burdette the lead with Lee in second. With the green waving on the restart, Burdette hugged the bottom groove as Lee went to the high side and as the checkered went up, Lee rammed his foot to the floor of the Cowen Truck Line, LSI #61 and shot past Burdette just before the finish line to pick up the win as the crowd was all on their feet. It was the first win of the season for the popular Loudonville driver and gives the two time track champion 15 all time wins at Hilltop. Chasing Burdette was Conley, Moran and Aaron Phillis. Casey, Carpenter, Conley, Lee and Anthony Huber topped the heats with Rick Conley and Brad Malcuit scoring wins in the last chance races. A nasty wreck on the white flag lap of the second last chance race happened when Eric Smitley touched the front wall with Kyle Moore right behind Smitley. Moore’s car lifted Smitley’s car up and he rolled it over. Both drivers were ok but Smitley’s ride was finished as Moore was able to finish.

Following in the Late Model tire prints, the Street Stocks saw Jesse Wisecarver grab the lead at the drop of the green with Jeremy Dickerson setting up in the high groove with Kyle Dickinson taking the low line and they would battle back and forth for second as Wisecarver inched away from them lap after lap. Driving the Zanesville based, Russ James Contracting, KSA Insurance and Buds Inc #96, Wisecarver collected the win as Dickinson secured second with two laps to go over Dickerson as Matt Shroyer ran a steady fourth as Bob Chilcote slipped past Timmy Glassburn with three circuits to go for fifth. Wisecarver and Dickerson lead the way in the heats.

Another spirited night of action took place in the Mini Stocks as last years champion, Gary Hensel Jr., Steve Miller and Jason St. John scored the heat race wins putting Hensel Jr. on the pole of the feature and he would keep the McKenzie Concrete, Nold Ave. Bar, and J & M Constuction, Applecreek based #28h out front the entire race for his 1st win of the season. Miller would put some early pressure on Hensel Jr. With the laps winding down, 17th starting Terry Adkins had worked his way through the field and with two to go passed Miller for second but ran out of time to challenge Hensel Jr. for the win. Jordan James, who won the last chance race driving the James Priebe #7 finished fourth as St. John took fifth. 

Sunbury’s Kevin Potts swept the action in the Bug-R-Gone trucks by winning the heat race and then leading all the way in the feature to put the Proscape Landscaping, Welders on Wheels and D&D Agri Hauling #8k in the winners circle for the second time this year. Jack Large chased KP second as John Large ran third, using his back up truck after snapping an axle in his primary truck in the heat race. Stan Braxton and Darrick Hubbard Jr. rounded out the top five.

Tanner McLouglin of Zanesville muscled past Colton Perrine coming out of turn four on the last lap to post his first Hilltop Mini Wedge win. Chase Osborne, Cody Stillion and Triston Brown filled out the top five. Stillion and McLoughlin notched the heat wins.
Saturday, May 12th at Hilltop Speedway will have a regular show with all six divisions on the card with a 7 pm starting time
