Miller Doubles Up at Duck River Speedways Season Openerby Josh Plant
Shelbyville, TN (04/10/2012)- Daniel Miller drove to double victories Saturday evening at Duck River Speedways season opener. Miller would claim the top spot in the super late model division and also in the 2 barrel division.
After a rocky start to the 2012 season and not finding success early as they did in 2011, the team regrouped and went back to the basics of what found them success in 2011. The team returned to Duck River Speedway Saturday night, after getting washed out from racing the previous week.
In the D&D Motorsports/Miller’s Used Cars/Bates Septic Service/KUNTZ Powered/ GRT super late model, Miller would go out and qualify a blistering lap of 12.47 seconds around the speedway and set quick time on the field. Miller would start on the pole for the 25 lap event, as the field took the green flag, Miller got out front and would never look back, the only challenge Miller would have would come from a late race caution, as the field would be bunched back up for a green/white/checkered finish. On the restart, the #56 of David Gentry would make a run at Miller but came up short, Miller would cruise on to claim his first victory of the 2012 season.
In 2 Barrel action, Miller would qualify fifth on the field of 10 cars. Starting mid pack, Miller knew he had to work a little harder to reach victory circle. Starting fifth, Miller and the rest of the field took the green, Miller would bob and weave his way through traffic, eventually reaching the second spot before a caution would wave. Miller would restart behind race leader #302 of Robert Stutts, the two cars were running the bottom of the racing surface before the caution came out. Miller decided to try his luck on the high side of the track, as Stutts would continue to run the bottom on the restart. As Miller come out of turn two, he pulled up along Stutts going down the back straight away, continuing to run each of their lines, Miller High and Stutts low, coming off of turn four Stutts would drift up in front of Miller with no room for error, the two would get together and Stutts would spin. Miller received minor damage and would be able to continue and inherit the leading spot, as Stutts wasn’t able to continue. Restarting in the leading spot, Miller would go on to lead the remaining few laps left and take win number two for the night.
Miller and the D&D Motorsports team will be back in action this upcoming Saturday April 14, 2012 at Duck River Speedway (Wheel, Tn.)
