Chub Frank Puts Frustrating Illini 100 Weekend Behind Him

BEAR LAKE, PA – April 5, 2012 – Chub Frank’s visit to Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway for last weekend’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Illini 100’ didn’t leave him with any rosy feelings.

When the checkered flag flew on the 100-lap A-Main Saturday night with Frank listed 18th in the final running order, all he could think about was putting the frustrating trip behind him and getting back to Bear Lake, Pa., to regroup.

“It wasn’t a very good race for us,” said the 50-year-old Frank. “The track rubbered so passing was hard, but we weren’t any good anyway. We didn’t qualify good (on Friday night) and that put us behind, and then the car was just never any good (in the 100). It didn’t do anything it was supposed to do.”

Frank qualified 32nd-fastest out of 53 entries in Friday’s time-trial session. He then drove his Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1* to a fifth-place finish in the second of Friday’s six 15-lap heat races, falling two spots short of transferring to the Illini 100.

Frank failed to qualify through the first of two 20-lap B-Mains on Saturday night, finishing third to miss a transfer position by one. He used a WoO LMS points provisional to start the A-Main from the 24th spot.

The Illini 100 was an uneventful affair for Frank, who went down a lap midway through the race but got back on the leader’s circuit during a lap-80 caution period thanks to the ‘Outlaw Pardon.’ He was unable to take advantage of the break, however, settling for an 18th-place finish.

Frank ended the weekend ranked fifth in the WoO LMS points standings through seven events, 118 points behind leader Darrell Lanigan.

The driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ plans to take a couple weeks off from competition before entering the 2012 season opener at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., on April 20 and a ULMS event at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on April 21. His next WoO LMS action is a Southern doubleheader on April 27 at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia and April 28 at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway.
