Daniel Baggerly Prepares for Some Changes in 2012

Rural Retreat, Virginia – 2011 was a year of improvement for Daniel Baggerly and his En>Compass Solutions Race Team. The 20 year-old junior at Emory and Henry College in Southwestern Virginia fielded cars in both the Super Late Model and Crate Late Model divisions in 2011. Baggerly found success and much improvement from seasons past. With around starts on the year, Baggerly amassed 1 win, 7 top 5s and 13 top 10s. Baggerly also collected a 5th place finish in the Ultimate Super Late Model Series point standings. “2011 was a good year. I definitely learned a lot this year. I owe much of what we learned to Freddy Smith traveling with us last year. He took years off of my learning curve and gave us great advice to keep getting better. I am proud that we had him onboard with us and it looks like he will be with us occasionally again this year.” Baggerly said.

Baggerly debuted a brand new Rocket Chassis for his final two events of 2011. Baggerly was very happy with how his new chassis performed. “We qualified 3rd quick in the new car at 311 Speedway at the end of October behind Jeff Smith and Chris Ferguson. We were only about 0.03 seconds off the pole. The car was really quick and for the first time in a Super Late Model I felt like I had a car capable of winning. I hooked a rut on a restart and fell back to 8th but I was able to race back to 5th. It felt good to have such a fast car.” Baggerly added. Baggerly also ran his new Rocket at Cherokee Speedway’s Blue Gray 100 in November. “We were running 2nd in the heat and had a flat tire. We ended up taking a provisional and raced all the way up to 7th and got into the Davenport-McDowell deal. That put us in the rear and we got caught up in another wreck. But overall I was very impressed with the car and I really believe going forward it will make us a more competitive team week in and week out.”

Baggerly’s 2012 schedule is around 90% complete. He will primarily focus on his Super Late Model program and the Ultimate Super Late Model Series. “The 2012 Ultimate Series scheduled fits perfectly with my academic schedule. Not to mention they have added some of my favorite tracks in Boyd’s Smokey Mountain and North Georgia. So committing to the Ultimate deal again in 2012 was an easy decision. We really enjoyed racing Crate Late Models and we generally fielded a pretty competitive car but time constraints have forced us to focus on only one program this year. My crew chief, JC Crockett who has been with me since the beginning of my racing career, graduates from college in May and he will more than likely be moving on to a fulltime race team this summer fulfilling on of his life’s goals. JC and I have basically grown up together and without him turning wrenches and fixing my mistakes, I would not be in the position I am in today.” Baggerly said.

Much of Baggerly’s racing schedule will also revolve around his college and internship work schedule. Baggerly is a double major in Accounting and Economics at Emory and Henry College and he is currently fulfilling a database research and market analysis internship with United Central Industrial Supply. “My mom and dad made sure I know that school comes first. And I am onboard with that 100%. I hope after I graduate I can move into a business management role with a growing company. That is my goal. I would love to be able to make a living racing but right now that is a tough way to make a living. So I hope I can put myself in a position to have a great job that will allow me to keep racing as my serious hobby.” Baggerly added.

For 2012 Baggerly also has plans to move exclusively to Rocket Chassis for his Super Late Model program. “I am really very excited about 2012. We finally have the right chassis for my driving style and we have some great input and advice from Freddy. It seems like we have put all the pieces in place. I feel like we can have a breakout year and possibly get a few wins or at least be a lot more competitive.” added Baggerly. Baggerly is set to get his 2012 season started with this weekend’s Ultimate Super Late Model Series events at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia on Friday, March 30th and North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia on Saturday, March 31st.
