Omaha, Nebraska's, John Anderson claimed the 2011 Lucas Oil MLRA Championship by a narrow margin over seven time series champion, Al Purkey. Anderson and his #2 Shop Quick team are expected to lead the charge into the 2012 season. Chad Simpson from Mt. Vernon, Iowa topped a field of 55 Late Models last April for Spring Thunder at Lucas Oil Speedway to take the win over Galena, Missouri's, Jesse Stovall in the double zero. Simpson is expected to run for the Lucas Oil MLRA Championship this year along with a salty field of veterans and rookies. Brad Looney from Republic, Missouri claimed his first ever win at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks last August, when the Lucas Oil MLRA returned for the Summer Shootout.
In addition to bringing in the top drivers from the MLRA, track officials have partnered with the ULMA Late Model sanctioning group to count this as a ULMA points race with (2) guaranteed provisional starting spots. ULMA drivers who do not race their way into the feature can qualify through these provisionals. One provisional for the April 14th race will be given to the highest finishing driver in Lucas Oil Speedway Late Model Track Championship points in 2011, not already qualified for the feature. The other provisional will be given to the highest finishing driver in ULMA Championship Points from 2011, not already in the feature.
For the September 1st race, one provisional will be granted to the current driver highest in ULMA points standings, not already qualified for the feature. The second provisional will go to the driver highest in Lucas Oil Speedway ULMA point standings, not already qualified for the feature. This partnership also means ULMA will award full points at both events. Dan Robinson, General Manager at Lucas Oil Speedway commented, "We are pleased to further our relationship with ULMA to give our weekly ULMA Late Model drivers and others in the area, a chance to compete in these two Lucas Oil MLRA series events. It also allows two more opportunities for ULMA drivers to earn valuable ULMA Championship points at Lucas Oil Speedway." For more information please visit
