Jimmy Mars Opens Up 2012 in Arizona; Accumulates Trio of Top Fives

MENOMONIE, Wisc. (January 25) - The Mars Racing team recently returned back to their Menomonie, Wisconsin race shop after a nearly 3500 mile round trip visit to the USA Raceway in Tucson, Arizona. Jimmy Mars entered all six races of the annual ‘Wild West Shootout’ from January 14-22 and accumulated a trio of Top Five efforts. Jimmy finished fourth in the first two events on January 14 & 15, while he recorded a solid fifth place performance in the $10,000 ‘Bill Cheesbourg Memorial’ finale on January 22.

“We had some pretty good runs out west to start out the year, but we could have used a little more luck,” commented Mars after returning home this week. “The format they use with drawing for heat races and then redrawing before the feature makes it pretty tough, especially considering the level of competition and the track conditions this year. It was hard to pass most of the week and when you draw a fourth row starting spot, it makes it difficult to come to the front. We have good cars and good motors though and that makes me excited for the rest of the year!”

As stated before, Jimmy racked up three Top Five finishes during his trip out west. He also registered a sixth place effort on Friday, January 20 after getting nipped at the finish line by fifth place runner Shannon Babb. In preliminary action in Tucson, Jimmy amassed three heat race wins and was forced to run a B-Main only once. The Mars Racing team is currently unsure of when and where they will unload their Deppe Enterprises #28 MB Customs racecar next. A trip to Florida for part of “Speedweeks 2012” is not out of the question, but Jimmy is not ready to confirm any schedule dates at this time.
