John Garvin Jr. Ready to Battle Georgia/Florida Speedweeks

Sarver, PA (January 6) Former UNOH All Star Late Model Series Rookie of the Year John Garvin Jr. and Copperhead Racing finished their 2011 season with a win in Lernerville Speedway's 'Steel City Stampede' and several strong finishes throughout the Western Pennsylvania region. Garvin hopes that momentum will carry through to the 2012 season as they open their season during the Georgia/Florida Speedweeks.

John Jr., also known as 'Copperhead', will make his first appearance of 2012 at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11 for the $20,000 'Winter Freeze' sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. From there, Garvin will take his Garvin Scrap Metal, Graff Trucking, Sarver Landscape and Garden Supply, JNJ Motorsports Media, Chub Frank Racing sponsored Rocket Chassis to Ocala, FL for the 'Late Model Winter Nationals', sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, at Bubba Raceway Park on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, February 16, 17, and 18. Bubba Raceway Park has put up $8,000, $10,000, and $12,000 to win for the three nights of action.

'Copperhead' will then travel east about 60 miles for his annual trip to Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL for the 41st Annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals. The Late Model portion of the Florida DIRTcar Nationals will run from Monday, February 20 to Saturday, February 25 and will include four UMP sanctioned events paying $7,000 to-win for the first three and $10,000 to-win for the fourth, and two $10,000 to-win World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned events.

'Florida has become an annual trip for us,' John said, 'but this year the World of Outlaws threw us a curveball and added a few races. We're certainly not complaining, as a race team, if you're traveling that far, you want to race as much as possible, so to have ten chances to race in one trip, makes it worthwhile as a racer.' Garvin continued, 'We have laps at all three tracks so we feel confident that we'll be able to compete with some of the best while we're there. The only place that will be different is Ocala (Bubba Raceway Park) because they made some changes there. We're real excited to get to Screven, we had a good run down there during Thanksgiving Weekend in a crate car and I'm hoping what we learned that weekend will benefit us next month.'

Garvin's 2012 plans are pretty much the same as the 2011 season and will include a regional schedule. 'We'll do a lot of Lernerville Speedway on Friday's and try our hand at a few different places on Saturday's,' John mentioned. 'The Appalachian Speedweek is something we enjoyed doing last year and looks even better this year so we'll probably do that again as well as a lot of the series races within a few hours of home.'
