Chris Brown Finishes 2nd in Jim Dunn Memorial; Fall Classic Next

by Ben Shelton
Spring, Texas (10/18/11) – Chris Brown piloted his #21 Delta Flange/Lone Star Hydro & Maintenance/Bloomquist/Roush Yates Racing Engine Super Late Model in the 31st Annual US Steel Dirt Track Championship last weekend and came away with a runner-up finish in the Jim Dunn Memorial.

The team made the trek to Atomic Speedway (formerly KC Raceway) over the course of last weekend for the 31st Annual US Steel Dirt Track World Championship, which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS). A talented field of 90 Super Late Models entered the $50,000-to-win event, and Mother Nature would intervene into the schedule of events early in the weekend by nixing Friday's program. As a result, the entire show was held on Saturday, and with time trials starting at 4pm the track would quickly take rubber as passing became difficult.

Via qualifying Chris earned the fourth starting spot for his heat race before finishing fifth, which left him short of a transfer to the feature and starting fourth in a b-main. In the b-main, Brown would race his way into the second and final transfer spot for much of the event before getting caught behind a lap car late, which resulted in him slipping to a third place finish. Even though he didn't earn a spot in the feature event grid Chris did earn the second starting spot in the $3,000-to-win, Jim Dunn Memorial. Once again a one-laned track greeted the competitors, and Brown would fall in line at the drop of the green flag before recording a second place finish to Tim Dohm.

The upcoming weekend, October 20th-22nd, will see the team make the trek to Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Mississippi) for the 17th Annual Coors Light Fall Classic at the 1/3 mile oval. Festivities begin on Thursday night with an Open Practice Session, while time trials and heat races will be held on Friday night. Saturday night will see b-mains, and the 100 lap finale, which boasts a $15,000 winner's check and $1,000 just to start the main event. In 2010 Chris made his first Fall Classic starting grid and recorded a 16th place finish. For more information on the event, please visit www.WhynotMotorsportsPark.com .
