17th Annual Coors Light Fall Classic Rapidly Approaching

by Ben Shelton
Meridian, Mississippi (10/04/11) Less than three weeks remain until the 17th Annual Coors Light Fall Classic at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi roars to life on Thursday-Saturday, October 20th-22nd, 2011. On the heels of the most successful Coors Light Fall Classic ever in 2010, the event is back for more in 2011. For the seventeenth straight year, many of the best competitors in the nation and the region will converge on the southeast Mississippi facility to contend for their respective championships. The 1/3 mile, clay oval is known for its consistently racy surface, which is prepared and maintained by racing veteran, Rodney Wing.

The 2011 edition of the event will be headlined by a $15,000 to win/$1,000 to start, 100 lap Super Late Model event, which boasts a total Super Late Model purse in excess of $55,000. In 2010 Brian Birkhofer topped a field of 60 Super Late Model competitors, representing 17 states, to claim his second event title, and will likely be back to defend his title in the 100 lap event against a talented field of competitors, which will likely include other former event champions including Wendell Wallace, Jimbo McDuffie, Chris Wall, David Breazeale, and Ronny Lee Hollingsworth.

Calls are already flooding in from drivers and fans for this year’s event, which could very well top last year's event to be the biggest in the history of the Coors Light Fall Classic.

Super Late Model competitors should note that they have until to October 16th, 2011 to file an early entry for $50. After this date, the entry fee will be $150. Competitors may file an early entry by simply calling Ben Shelton at 901-335-3037 or Jannie Thrash at 601-486-3410. All Super Late Model non-qualifiers will receive $50.

Crate Late Models will also co-headline the event as they wage war for $2,000 to win/$125 to start during the course of the event. The Open Wheel Modified division is being sponsored by Etheridge Race Products., and will boast a $2,000 to win/$125 to start payout. The Street Stock division will be headlined by a $1,000 to win/$75 to start program. On Friday night the Pure Stock division will contest a complete show for $250-to-win, while the Mini Stocks will battle in a complete $500-to-win show on Saturday night, and the Stingers will race in a complete $250-to-win show on Saturday night as well..

The entry fee for Crate Late Models and the Open Wheel Modifieds is $50 with all non-qualifiers receiving $50.

Open practice begins Thursday night, October 20th at 7:00 PM for all divisions. Friday night is preliminaries night, as the 17th Annual Coors Light Fall Classic Super Late Models qualify and run heat races as they attempt to make the feature field. Crate Late Models will also qualify and run heat races. Open Wheel Modifieds and Street Stocks will run their heats while the Pure Stock division will contest a complete program

B-Mains for all divisions will be contested on Saturday night along with the 17th Annual Coors Light Fall Classic Championships. A complete program for the Mini Stock and Stinger division will be held on Saturday night.
