Mark Dowdy Escapes Thunderhill with a 15th Place Finish

Waterloo, AL (09/14/2011)- Mark Dowdy, America’s first paralyzed dirt late model driver saw action this past weekend, September 10th at Thunderhill Raceway (Summertown, TN) for a regular scheduled program in the limited late model division taking home a 15th place finish.

As the night got started for the MDR Team in hot laps, the Warrior Chassis sustained some damage as Dowdy was out shaking the car down. With the help of MDR team member Lee Strong and Cody Springer team member Ike Newton and special guest Larry Stephens the team made repairs before qualifying time rolled around. Dowdy would go out and lay lap time of 13.194 seconds around the steep banks of Thunderhill, giving him a 10th place starting position amongst the 21 car field of limited late models in attendance.

Feature time came and the time had come to get down to business for 20 laps. As Dowdy came to the green flag in the 10th spot, he knew his work would be cut out for him. Dowdy maneuvered his way around several cars by Lap 5 and reached as high as fifth place before caution fell on lap five. While in contention the 21 car of Shannon Ardry got loose ahead of Dowdy and He could not avoid getting into Ardry, Dowdy would be credited for the caution and be sent to the rear of the field. Dowdy raced his way back to a 15th place finish after the 20 lap feature was over. Considering the damaged sustained to competitors cars earlier in the night, and a wild night at the Hill, the MDR Team would settle for the 15th spot for the night and make another run at it next time.

Mark Dowdy Racing will take this weekend from racing and be in attendance at the North Alabama Speedway’s Bama Brawl Event.
